Speakers Circuit
Sandy Gross, president and founding board member of #teamcorrie Cancer Foundation, will be the guest speaker when the Rotary Club meets at noon on Monday at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.
The #teamcorrie Cancer Foundation, a non-profit organization, was established by family and friends of Corrie Gross Bechtelheimer (Sandy’s daughter) in an effort to help relieve some of the financial burdens that force cancer patients to choose between life-saving treatment and life’s basic necessities. Corrie Bechtelheimer died after a two-year struggle with cancer on June 6, 2014.
Sandy Gross received a bachelor’s degree from Southern State College (now Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia) and attended graduate school at the University of Arkansas. She retired after teaching 34 years in Norphlet, Junction City and Parkers Chapel Schools.
She is co-owner of Poppy’s Pizza in Parkers Chapel and a founding board member and served as president of the Parkers Chapel Education Foundation. She was named 2016 Woman of the Year by Alpha Xi Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, a philanthropic organization that raises money for several Union County nonprofit organizations
Sandy Gross Served on the Theater Steering Committee of the South Arkansas Arts Center and has been involved with several SAAC productions. She has also served on the board of the American Cancer Society of Union County and Union County Relay for Life and is a founding board member and president of the #teamcorrie Cancer Foundation.
She is married to John Gross, the former superintendent of Parkers Chapel Schools and has three children, Brian Gross, Kristi Lowery and the late Corrie Bechtelheimer.

Earl Thomas is scheduled to install officers when the Kiwanis Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church for their annual Installation Banquet.
