- Special to the News-Times

The South Arkansas Arts Center is happy to announce the cast members recently selected by director Delaine Gates for the fall production of Victor Gialanella’s “Frankenstein.”

This horror genre show will open on October 27 and run through Monday, October 31, with the curtain going up at 7:30 each night. “Frankenstein” is sponsored by Simmons First Bank.

Congratulations to these talented actors making up the ensemble cast.

Victor Frankenstein will be recreated by Joel Cheshier, Elizabeth Lavenza will be played by Emily Cole with Alphonse Frankenstein being played by Jim Roomsburg. Cierra Grant will portray William Frankenstein, Brandon Wallace will recreate the role of Henry Clerval, with Jack Wilson playing Lionel Mueller. His wife, Frau Mueller, will be portrayed by Gianna Grant, Adam Watkins will play Hans Metz, and Jeremiah Marshall will play Peter Schmidt. Also, included in the cast will be David Guida playing DeLacey, Shelby Gage will play Justine Moritz and The Creature will be portrayed by Matthew Cordell.

Gates said about the audition process, “My first obligation is to the playwright, to give him the absolute best cast possible.”

Having taught drama in the school system for 24 years, she feels she is a teacher first and always hopes to teach the actors some skills that they can also use in their daily lives. She feels that actors have more understanding of the human condition and are more empathetic due to their artistic background.

Set in nineteenth-century Switzerland, this classic tale of horror and suspense details the ill-fated experiments of Dr. Frankenstein as he attempts to fathom the secrets of life and death. Blending thrills and horror with moments of touching sentiment, the play accomplishes the singular feat of being as moving and affecting as it is terrifying.
