The El Dorado Haunt, a haunted house for teens and adults located in the old Tuesday Morning space in Mellor Park Mall, will be open from 7 until 10 p.m. on Thursdays before Halloween, from 7 until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and from 7 until 10 p.m. on Halloween, Oct. 31. Cost of admission is $15 and entrance is through the east side of the mall. All proceeds from the event will benefit Camp Fire El Dorado.

Bargains for You on Highway 82 will be held today and Saturday. The multi-city sale will be held from daylight until dark each day and will stretch 80 miles from Magnolia to Crossett and Hamburg along the U.S. 82 corridor. Bargains for You — part swap meet, part yard sale, part flea market — is sponsored by the Union County Antique Associatio­n.

Holiday Foods will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, in the Ministry Center of College Avenue Church of Christ in El Dorado. The cost is $15 per person. Tickets can be purchased at the Extension Office at 307 American Road, Suite 101 behind the Health Department and at the door.

The theme this year is “Harvest of Crockpot Cookery,” and this year’s featured speaker will be Janet Carson, state horticultu­re specialist and the state coordinato­r for the Arkansas Master Gardener program with the University of Arkansas Systems Division of Agricultur­e Research and Extension. She will be doing a program on “Holiday Beauties – Plants That Bloom During the Holidays.”

Foods to be tasted will be prepared by EHC members and friends and the tasting will follow the program. Those attending will receive a booklet of recipes for the holiday season. Extra books can be purchased for $5. Table decoration­s are being furnished by the Extension Homemakers Clubs. The EHC cookbook, A Taste of Union County, Volume IV, will be sold at the Holiday Foods program for $10 and the So Easy to Preserve Canning Cookbook will be sold for $15. EHC members will also sponsor a candy sale (divinity, fudge, peanut brittle and other candy) at $3 per package to help defray costs of the program.

Agape House Children’s Home canned food drive A canned food, paper goods and cleaning supply drive, will be held from 2:30 until 4:30 p.m. on Sunday at First Baptist Church of El Dorado, in the Child Learning Center parking lot. The event is being held in conjunctio­n with several others events to celebrate Agape’s first birthday.

The Union County Alumni Chapter of UAPB/AM&N

will hold its quarterly meeting at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Douglas Chapel Baptist Church, 969 Smackover Highway. For more informatio­n, contact Leodis Williams at 870-310-0487.

The El Dorado High School Wildcats will play Siloam Springs in Siloam Springs with kick-off at 7 tonight. The Junction City Dragons will play the Smackover Buckaroos in Smackover and the Strong Bulldogs will play Woodlawn (Rison) at Woodlawn High School. The Parkers Chapel Trojans do not have a game scheduled for tonight. All games start at 7 p.m.

Union County Master Gardeners will be offering a Tree Identifica­tion Workshop with Dr. Eric Sundell from 2 until 4 p.m. on Sunday, in conjunctio­n with Autumn at the Arboretum at the South Arkansas Arboretum.

The workshop is open to both children and adults who are interested in learning more about identifyin­g trees. Copies of “Trees of Arkansas” will be available for purchase for $5.

Master Gardeners will be on hand to assist Sundell and answer general gardening questions. The South Arkansas Arboretum is operated by South Arkansas Community College and Autumn at the Arboretum is a free event with music, refreshmen­ts and pumpkin decorating for children (a fee is collected).
