Sims Mortuary under new ownership
EL DORADO — As of Oct. 14, Sims Mortuary has been under new management.
The El Dorado business is now owned and managed by Robert and Natashia Henderson.
In June of this year, Henderson and his father, Issac Henderson Jr., entered negotiations with Berry Dodson and Felton Burgie, and as of Oct 14, He and his wife became the new owners.
“I saw this as a great opportunity to do what I love,” said Robert Henderson.
Henderson brings decades of knowledge to his new business. He has been a licensed funeral director with the Sim’s Mortuary family since 2010.
He is also a licensed burial agent with the Sims Shaw Burial Association, an Insurance agent with First Guaranty Life Insurance Company and a bonded notary public.
He went to school at Grambling State University were he graduated in 2004 with a degree in computer information systems.
“This is something I have always wanted to do,” Henderson said. “I have dreamed of it for a long time. I believed in this dream so much that I retired from a 20-year career as a district manager for McDonald’s.”
Sims Mortuary has been serving the families of El Dorado and surrounding areas for 65 years. It is their mission to continue to offer the same philosophy for serving families during their time of loss with the same honesty and integrity that the community has come to expect.
“This was an opportunity to own a business that has been here for over 60 years,” Henderson said. “It was a chance to continue the legacy.”
Although Sims is under new ownership and management, the community can still rely on the same compassion and professional services, Henderson said.
“We want to celebrate life. We are committed to service and excellence. Thank you for your loyalty and years of continued support,” said Henderson.
The Rev. Barry Dobson will also continue on in his position as the secretary and treasurer of the Sims Shaw Burial Association.
All burial polices will be honored and serviced by Sims Mortuary as they always have. They will continue to honor all contracts, pre-needs, pre-arrangements and life insurance policies, Henderson said.
The new owners are also looking forward to the possibilities and opportunities for growth and expanding their insurance and burial services, Henderson said.
Sims Mortuary now also offers a free notary service as well, he added.
