Bucks to play for league title

News-Times Staff JUNCTION CITY Smackover’s defense turned in a dominant performanc­e, as the Bucks held Junction City to just 17 yards of total offense and one first down en route to a 20-0 win over the Dragons.

Three different players ran for touchdowns for the Bucks (7-1, 6-0), who won the 6-3A West crown and will host Fordyce next Thursday for the league title.

The Bucks generated 219 yards rushing with Dexter Crockett and Dawson Biggers doing the bulk of the damage, and it was the latter who opened the scoring.

Just 57 seconds into the game, Biggers broke free and scored on a 45-yard run to give Smackover a 6-0 lead.

Smackover then struck near the end of the first quarter, as Austin Goodwin scored on a 36-yard run with 29 seconds left to push the lead to 12-0.

Leading by the same score after the opening period, the Bucks’ defense got into the act by forcing a safety in the second period to make it 14-0.

The score remained unchanged until Crockett put the game away with a 1-yard run with 5:09 left in the game to make the final margin.

Crockett finished with 99 yards on 14 carries, and he also caught one pass for 10 yards.

Biggers chipped in with 72 yards on nine carries, while Goodwin added 37 yards on five carries.

Goodwin was also 1-of-2 passing for 10 yards.
