MAGNOLIA — Alexandria Gartman, of El Dorado, recently played a role in the Southern Arkansas University Theatre production of the thriller, “Dial M for Murder.”

Gartman, a junior theatre major, was the publicity agent for the show.

The thriller, written by Frederick Knott and directed by SAU’s Richard Vollmer, is a suspense thriller based on the classic 1954 Alfred Hitchcock film.

An ex-tennis pro carries out a plot to murder his wife and when things go wrong, he improvises a brilliant plan B.

This was the second-tolast show of a series of productions presented for SAU’s 2016-2017 Main Stage Theatre Season.

The theatre’s final show will be the big musical of the year, “The Little Mermaid,” which will run at 7 p.m. on April 20-22 and at 2 p.m. on April 23 at Harton Theatre.

••• JONESBORO – Arkansas State University Theatre will present “Zombie Prom,” a musical comedy by John Dempsey, Hugh Murphy and Dana P. Rowe, will continue throughWednesday.

Justin Almager, a senior theatre major from El Dorado, will serve as hair and makeup designer.

The publisher’s synopsis describes the story: “This girl-loves-ghoul rock and roll Off Broadway musical is set in the atomic 1950s at Enrico Fermi High, where the law is laid down by a zany, tyrannical principal.

Pretty senior Toffee has fallen for the class bad boy.

Family pressure forces her to end the romance, and he flings himself into the cooling tower of the nuclear waste dump.

He returns from the dead glowing and determined to reclaim Toffee’s heart.

He still wants to graduate, but most of all he wants to take Toffee to the prom. The principal orders him to drop dead while a scandal reporter seizes on him as the freak du jour.

History comes to his rescue while a tuneful selection of original songs in the style of the ‘50s hits keeps the action rocking across stage.”

The production, under the direction and choreography of Lisa Bohn, assistant professor of theatre, will begin at 7:30 p.m. each evening.

The ASU production will be held in the Drama Theatre at Fowler Center, 201 Olympic Drive.
