Man allegedly shoots victim in head
Five others also face felonies
EL DORADO — Six people charged with various felonies made their first court appearances Monday with District Court Judge Jack Barker presiding.
Burley D. Hunter, 45, of 1220 N. Highland Ave., was arrested Sunday, after he allegedly shot a man in the head, according to State Prosecutor Greg Thomas.
Around 5 a.m. on Sunday, local police found the victim lying on the floor inside a house at the 400 block of S. Smith Avenue; blood was at the scene and no gun was found on the property, according to the El Dorado Police Department.
The victim is being treated at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock for “head trauma,” said Capt. Kevin Holt, public information officer for the El Dorado Police Department.
Hunter was charged with first-degree battery and theft of property and held in lieu of a $100,000 cash or corporate surety bond.
“Your honor, the victim’s in critical condition and was sent over to Little Rock for treatment,” Thomas said. “He’s lucky to be alive.”
Police are investigating the case and questioning witnesses at this time.
Currently, police are investigating and questioning witnesses, Johnnie D. Hill, 42, of Calion, was arrested Saturday after allegedly breaking into a pawnshop in Smackover and being found with a stolen vehicle, illegal drugs, identity fraud materials and a bullet proof vest, according to the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
He was charged with various drug- and theft-related felonies, including four counts of breaking or entering, possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a felon, forgery, theft of property and violation of parole.
At 7 a.m. sheriff’s deputies responded to a suspicious activity call at A1 Pawn Storage, 1269 W. 7th St., Smackover, Ark., and allegedly found Hill in possession of the following items: marijuana, methamphetamine, five checkbooks belonging to someone other than the suspect, and a social security card belonging to a someone else, according to the sheriff’s department.
Upon further investigation, deputies reported Hill broke into four storage units by using bolt cutters to cut off the door locks. Among the items found inside Hill’s 2006 Honda Pilot included bolt cutters, a Marlin 30-30 rifle, and a bullet proof vest, according to the probable cause affidavit.
Hill is being held in lieu of a $20,000 cash or corporate surety bond.
Before deputies arrived, a suspect reportedly fled the scene in a white Chrysler driven by a William L. Stanley, 42, of Louann.
Stanley was arrested Saturday in connection with the break-in at A1 Pawn and charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of parole.
Stanley was held in lieu of a $10,000 cash or corporate surety bond.
Clyde G. Freeman, 68, of El Dorado was arrested Wednesday after failing to comply with registration requirements for sex offenders, according to the police department.
He was charged with two counts of failing to comply with reporting and registration requirements, and living near a school, public park, youth center, day care, or church as a registered offender.
Freeman is being held in lieu of a $25,000 cash or corporate surety bond.
Marcus D. Dillon, 30, of 930 E. Oak St., was arrested Saturday for a warrant from an incident earlier this month.
Saturday, police responded to a disturbance call at 1 Pye Court and found another man detaining Dillon to the ground; police then searched Dillon’s name in NCIC and found a warrant for his arrest.
On Feb. 3, Dillon allegedly used an unauthorized check from First National Bank of Omaha to buy his vehicle from an impound, Sim’s Wrecker Service, in the amount of $1,499.65, according to the police department.
He was charged with second-degree forgery and held in lieu of a $5,000 signature bond.
Lee Sadler, 47, of El Dorado, was arrested Saturday after allegedly pushing and injuring a woman with a knife, according to the police department.
He was charged with aggravated assault and held in lieu of $10,000 cash or corporate surety bond.
