Louisiana Tech splits doubleheader on road

-

JONESBORO - On cold day in Jonesboro, Louisiana Tech split a double-header with Arkansas State, first with a commanding victory, followed by a heartbreaking loss to the Red Wolves.

In game one of the double-header, Louisiana Tech put on an offensive clinic, rolling to a 19-3 win.

Marshall Boggs registered a career-high seven RBI in game one of the doubl header, thanks to a three-run home run and a grand slam. Boggs, Brent Diaz and Jordan Washam all had three or more hits in the contest.

The trio were also the only Bulldogs to register multiple RBI as Diaz drove in four runs and Washam drove in two.

Kent Hasler got the start on the hill and moved to 3-0 on the season. The righthander tossed six innings, allowing three runs and striking out five.

As a team, Louisiana Tech launched five home runs. Boggs, who homered twice, was joined by Chase Lunceford, Brent Diaz and Dustin Mitchell. This was the first time a Louisiana Tech team hit five home runs in a game since last May against Rice.

Arkansas State struck first in the bottom of the first inning, but Louisiana Tech responded by scoring 13 unanswered runs over the next six innings to take a commanding 13-1 lead.

In game two, Arkansas State overcame an early 3-0 deficit and used a late score to edge Louisiana Tech, 6-5.

Boggs continued his incredible day at the plate, reaching base three times and driving in two more runs, totaling nine for the day.

The senior entered the day with nine total RBI for the season.

Washam collected three more hits and for the day combined to go 7-of-11 at the plate.

Five different Louisiana Tech pitchers saw action on the day, but control was an issue for the Bulldogs. As a staff, LA Tech issued six walks, hit four batters and had five wild pitches.
