Symphony plans Magnolia concert
MAGNOLIA — The South Arkansas Symphony Orchestra will present the West Edge String Quartet in performance in the Oliver Recital Hall in the Camp Hall building at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
Centaur recording artists, the quartet consists of violinist (and symphony conductor) Kermit Poling, along with violinist Elizabeth O’Bannon, violist Borys Smolaga and cellist Ruth Drummond – wellknown members of the South Arkansas Symphony who perform frequently throughout South Arkansas, Louisiana and beyond – will present the concert.
Music will include Dvorak’s “American ” string quartet along with an original piece by Poling, titled “Within the Orb of Glories Wearing.” The piece will be featured on an international TV broadcast on the EWTN cable in April. Later this year, the quartet will record this work for a new album on the Centaur label.
