East Central knocks off Henderson State

ARKADELPHIA - East Central broke a 2-2 tie in the eighth-inning scoring a pair of runs to beat Henderson State 4-2 and take the final game of the three game series, Sunday.

The Reddies, 18-10 overall and 12-6 in the Great American Conference, still managed to win its fifth league series after winning both games of Saturday’s double-header 7-3 and 2-0.

The Tigers, 9-17 overall and 8-10 in league play, put together four hits in the eighth-inning and scored two runs to salvage the final game.

Henderson took a 1-0 lead in the second-inning as Parker Jones and Colton Coffman had back-to-back singles to lead off the frame with Jones scoring on a sacrifice fly by Jordan Taylor.

East Central grabbed its first lead in the fifth-inning scoring two runs with the help of two hits and a Reddie error.

The Reddies quickly tied the score in the bottom of the inning as Henderson scored without a benefit of a hit as Dylan McCain and Kearon Redmon both walked and Joe Myers and Hayden Lessenberry were both hit by pitches with two outs. However, that was all the runs Henderson could manage as the Reddies left the bases loaded.

The Reddies had opportunities in the sixth and eighth innings putting a pair of runners on base both frames, but Henderson could not cash in as ECU relief pitcher Sheae Edmonds worked of the jam both times.
