Junction City stops Fordyce 5-3

FORDYCE - In Junction City’s first meeting against Fordyce, Logan Disotell and Joe Lowe combined to strike out 14 batters.

In the rematch on Monday, Disotell was the lone Dragon needed on the hill, as the senior fired a one-hitter to lead the Dragons past the Redbugs 5-3 in Class 3A-4A District 12 play.

Disotell walked three and hit two batters, but racked up 10 strikeouts, as the Dragons picked up a big road win in conference play.

The Dragons struck early, scoring two runs in the first on a sacrifice

fly by Keelan Hodge and an RBI single by Brock McGoogan.

Fordyce answered with a run in the bottom of the first, but the visitors scored single runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings to take a 5-1 lead that Disotell made stand up.

Robbie Roberson had two singles, while Disotell and Bryce Ware each had one single in the win.

Lowe had a single and an RBI for the Dragons (10-6, 5-1).

Monticello 4, Smackover 3,

8 Innings MONTICELLO - Beau Burson turned in a terrific pitching performanc­e, but it wasn’t enough, as Monticello scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to upend the Bucks in Class 3A-4A District 12 action.

The Bucks (5-10) broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the top of the eighth only to see the Billies come right back and win the game in the bottom half of the inning.

In the eighth, Weston Smith singled and stole second base to get into scoring position.

Brennan McKnight, who was 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI for the Bucks, advanced Smith to third with a ground out to second.

Cade Schibler then followed with an RBI single to give the Bucks a 3-2 edge. However, the Billies rallied.

Gabe Martens led off the inning with a triple to right-center and Mason Morgan was hit by a pitch to put runners at the corners.

Grant Jeffers then tied the game with a run-scoring single to center.

With runners now at first and second, Hunter Lane laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners to second and third, and Ty Henderson was walked intentiona­lly to load the bases.

Burson fanned Sam Mencer for the second out, but Wil Brooks ended the game by delivering a base hit to left that scored the game-winning run.

Burson went the distance with a five-hitter. He allowed four runs (two earned), walked two (one intentiona­l) and struck out three.

The Bucks scored their other runs in the second and fifth innings.

In the second, Tucker Evans walked, stole second, took third on a throwing error, and scored on a second throwing error on the play at third.

McKnight collected an RBI in the fifth by drawing a walk with the bases loaded.

Smith, Schibler, Clay Stringer and Baylor Brumley each added one hit for the Bucks, who had six hits in the contest.
