Norphlet gets GPS of water system

- News-Times Staff Report

NORPHLET — Mayor Jim Crotty reported that the city will be receiving the GPS locations of the whole water system for the city because of a $5,000 water and sewer grant from the Arkansas Health Department.

“He’s putting it all on a disk so we will be able to Google all of our lines, plus a copy on a disk and a map that we can hang up to see them all,” said Crotty.

This will make it easy for the city to see where all of the lines are located for any future projects by the city or residents.

There is a small leak in the water line on Church Street that the city plans to address soon. They will be capping off the end because the line is no longer of use.

The city would also like to lay a new sewer discharge line and is currently going through preliminary paper work in order to change it, the mayor said.

They have applied for a grant to help pay for the work and is projecting completion by 2018. Gaunt Engineering quoted the city $350,000 to lay the discharge line.

In other business, Crotty reported that the equipment at the park is still in good repair and clean for the residents to use.

“There has been a lot of little league teams and people have been renting the park for birthday parties. The weather is perfect for it,” Crotty said.

School and McMillian Streets will be repaved starting on June 3 by the Street Aid Commission, Crotty said.

The city will also be looking at fixing the town’s red light. It was originally on a trigger but due to lightning hitting it, the sensor was damaged. The engineers switched it to a timer.

Crotty said he will speak with the engineers that are in charge of the maintenance of the light to see how much it will cost to replace the sensor.
