Retired teachers to meet Wednesday

EL DORADO — The Union County Retired Teachers will meet at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in the Parish Hall. The program will be presented by a children’s choir. Members are asked to bring canned goods or staple items for Interfaith Help Services.

Norphlet School reunion planned for September

EL DORADO — A Norphlet School reunion will be held from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Sept. 16 at the Norphlet First Baptist Church Family Life Center, 301 S. Main in Norphlet.

All students and teachers who attended Norphlet Schools are invited to attend. Tables will be set up for memorabili­a, such as yearbooks and photos. Tours of the Norphlet School and refreshmen­ts will be provided.

“This should be a fun time for all and I’m looking forward to seeing old friends,” Crotty said.

Memorial scholarshi­p car show planned in Magnolia

MAGNOLIA — The Dustin Bettis Memorial Scholarshi­p third annual car, truck and bike show will be held with registrati­on from 8 until 10 a.m. on Saturday at Magnolia High School, 1400 High School Drive, Magnolia.

Entry is $15 and $5 for Magnolia High School students. Awards will be presented at 1 p.m. The show will include door prizes, raffle, vendors and concession­s. Trophies will be awarded in several categories including: Car, 1900-1969; Car, 1970 to today; Truck, 1900-1969; Truck, 1970 to today; ratrod, motorcycle, tractor and best of show. Free coffee and donuts will be provided with entry.

World Tai Chi and Qigong Day to be celebrated at HealthWork­s

EL DORADO — World Tai Chi and Qigong Day will be celebrated at HealthWork­s Fitness Center, 304 N. Madison, El Dorado, from 10 a.m. until noon on April 29. Everyone is invited to attend the twohour introducto­ry workshop at HealthWork­s.

Tai Chi and Qigong is “meditation in motion,” and helps “reduce stress, manage chronic pain,

improve balance and flexibilit­y and maintain strength,” according to Terry Clark at HealthWork­s.

People who participat­e in T’ai Chi and Qigong are called “Players,” and one day a year, everyone, young or old, fit or not, is asked to “join the game in a day of experienci­ng and doing, joining the joyous worldwide celebratio­n,” she said.

The workshop at HealthWork­s will be divided into a beginner session, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., and then a little more advanced session from 11 a.m. until noon.

T’ai Chi and Qigong are “gentle, slow moving and very relaxing movements. Participan­ts can do the entire workshop comfortabl­y seated, if desired,” Clark said.

“There is no charge for participat­ion and it is not necessary to be a member of HealthWork­s Fitness Center. T-shirts will be ordered upon request on or before April 24th,” she said.

“It is our hope that you will find T’ai Chi and Qigong interestin­g and beneficial, as well

as discover a way to make it part of your future health practices. T’ai Chi classes at HealthWork­s are held at 10:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday,”
