Buckaroos crush Drew Central

MONTICELLO - Smackover is headed to the regional tournament.

Beau Burson belted a threerun homer and drove in five runs, as the Bucks crushed Drew Central 19-0 in Class 3A-4A District 12 play on Monday.

The win is the fifth straight for the Bucks (13-12), who will host Junction City today with the top seed for next week’s district tournament at stake.

Smackover downed Junction City 7-3 in their first encounter last week.

The top two seeds for the district tournament automatica­lly qualify for the regional tournament.

The Bucks made quick work of the Pirates, scoring nine runs in the first and 10 in the third en route to winning in three innings.

Smackover was also very busy on the bases, going a perfect 23-for-23 in stolen bases while banging out 10 hits.

Burson, who was 2-for-3, had a sacrifice fly in the first to get his big day started.

Weston Smith had a two-run double, and the Bucks also got RBI singles from Brennan McKnight, Cade Schibler and Cody Smith in the first.

Weston Smith, who went 2-for-2, capped a four-RBI performanc­e with a two-run single in the third.

Burson had his aforementi­oned three-run blast in the third, and the senior also had an RBI triple in the frame.

McKnight chipped in with his second RBI single of the game, and Schibler had an RBI ground out.

Nick Impson delivered an RBI single in the third.

Cody Smith finished 2-for-2 with a pair of singles for the Bucks.

Tucker Evans was the beneficiar­y of the Bucks’ onslaught.

The junior tossed three scoreless innings, allowing two hits. He walked two, hit a batter and struck out four.
