Services for Charles Glenn Andrews, 59, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy L. Carr officiatin­g.

Interment will follow at the Zion Hill Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Friday, April 21, at the Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Farmervill­e, Louisiana.

MELINDA L. BARROW

Melinda Louise Barrow, 80, of El Dorado passed away on Tuesday, April 18 in El Dorado.

Services will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 23 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church with Father Charles Chapman. Interment to follow at Arlington Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 22 at the Barrow Residence, at 1801 N. Madison. Arrangemen­ts entrusted to Young’s Funeral Directors.

Obituaries JEFFREY BURCHFIELD

C. Jeffrey Burchfield, 60, of El Dorado, died April 2, 2017 at his home, following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Jeff was born

May 8, 1956 in

El Dorado, the son of Tony Burchfield and

Sue Sinclair Burchfield.

He attended Smackover

Public Schools, Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, and Memphis State University in Memphis, Tennessee. He began his career in computer technology with IBM Corporatio­n in Los Angeles, California and later transferre­d to Atlanta, Georgia. He was an independen­t technology consultant in Atlanta from 1987 until 2005 when he retired and returned to his native Arkansas.

He was preceded in death by his father, Tony Burchfield; a sister, Debra Mock; a brother-in-law, David F. Childs; and his nephews, Nolan Mock and Conner Burchfield.

Survivors include his mother, Sue Sinclair Burchfield; sisters, Anita Childs-Smith (John Lee) and Jackie Dodd (Mike), all of El Dorado; and his brothers, Barry Burchfield (Jeanne) of Siloam Springs, Phillip Burchfield (Cathy), and Chris Burchfield (Mersehdeh) all of Atlanta.

He was a loving uncle to Neil (Anne) Mock and their daughter, Vivienne, Adam (Brandy) Childs, Alex Childs, Gabrielle Cuzzilla, Delaney Dodd, Zachary (Tania) Burchfield, Evan Burchfield, Brady Burchfield and Elizabeth Burchfield.

A Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. today at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with a visitation to follow in the Parish Hall. A Requiem Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April, 21, with committal to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Catholic Charities, USA, P. O. Box 17066, Baltimore, MD 21297-1066 or the charity of your choice.

MARGARET I. GRIFFITH

Margaret Isobel Warren Griffith, 83, of El Dorado, passed away on April 17, 2017 at the John R. Williamson Hospice House.

She was born July 23,

1933 to Ernest and Henrietta Gattenby Warren in Romford Essex England and later moved to Manchester where she grew up.

She was a child during World War II and enjoyed sharing her stories of taking gas masks to school, evacuation­s, rations and how close her family was during this time. She attended the local schools and after completion she worked for the British Postal Service as a telephone/telegraph operator. She met and married Claude “Buddy” Griffith who was serving in the U.S. Air Force. Upon his discharge they returned to his native South Arkansas. After her arrival she was introduced to other war brides and joined the group known as “the English Girls,” developing lifelong cherished friendship­s. As an active member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, she was an office volunteer, served on the Altar Guild and was a member of the St. Hilda’s Guild. She was also a Pink Lady volunteer at the Medical Center of South Arkansas as well as Life Touch Hospice. She retired from Garrett’s Furniture after 30 years and truly enjoyed meeting and helping people.

Margaret was incredibly proud of her four children, Dr. Keitha S. Griffith (Grant Kneebone) of Maumelle, Steven (Donna) Griffith of Bryant, and twins, Heather (Ricky) McGarity of El Dorado and Holly (Rick) Bauman of Smackover. She was also a very loving and devoted Nana to her grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren, Cody (Leslie) Bauman, Henry Todd and Nelle Averie of West Monroe, Louisiana, Bryan Griffith of Little Rock, Maggie (David) Guarno of Miramar Beach, Florida and Emily McGarity of Magnolia. Also surviving is her brother, Keith (Marilyn) Warren; and cousins, Anne (Frank) Tyrer and Roy Middleton, all of Manchester, England; as well as her nieces, nephews and cousins throughout the U.S., England, and Australia.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Young’s Funeral Home with a Requiem Mass at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 21 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church with Father Charles Chapman and Father Bob Allen officiatin­g. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will be at 2109 Rosewood in El Dorado.

JAMES W. MATHENEY

James Waters Matheney, 90, of Austin, Texas, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, April 13, 2017 surrounded by his children.

He was born on Sept.

11, 1926 in

El Dorado, to Harriett

Waters and Matthew Pierce Matheney.

Jim grew up in El Dorado and graduated from El Dorado High School before going off to Hendrix College. He accepted an appointmen­t to the U.S. Naval Academy from 1945 to 1949 and then served in the Navy from 1949 to 1953 where, among other honors, he was the oldest man to complete the rigorous UDT training, a precursor to the Navy SEALS.

He moved home to El Dorado and met and fell in love with his wife of 51 years, Barbara Ann Barton. Jim also opened the El Dorado branch of Schneider Burnet and Hickman, a securities firm, and worked in the securities business until his death.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife Barbara; and a brother, Matthew Pierce Matheney Jr.

He is survived by two sons, James Waters Matheney Jr. and wife, Sandy, of Hot Springs, and Clark Barton Matheney of Austin, Texas; a daughter, Diana Balch of Caldwell, Texas; his brother’s wife, Betty Clippard Matheney and their children Susan, Matt and Kendall; brother-in-law, Thomas Perkins Barton and his wife, Anne Alcorn Barton. “Boompa” also leaves nine grandchild­ren: Monte, Richard, Leslie, Amanda, Dustin, Sarah, Thomas, James, and Mary Hollis; 10 great-grandchild­ren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Jim enjoyed a good meal, great conversati­on, dancing, hunting – especially ducks in Arkansas, golf and bridge. He didn’t enjoy riding as a passenger and insisted on driving, car or golf cart, until the end. He was a one of a kind and will be missed by all.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, at First Presbyteri­an Church of El Dorado. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to HOPE Landing, 214 Hope Landing, El Dorado, AR 71730.

A reception will follow the service from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday at the El Dorado Golf and Country Club.

DEBORAH A. TOMLINSON

Deborah Ann Tomlinson, 67, of El Dorado, passed away, Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at the Medical Center of South Arkansas. She was born Nov. 16, 1949, to Malva M. and Eloise Daniels Tomlinson in El Dorado.

She was a member of Calion Baptist Church and worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield in the cashier department.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and brother, Sonny Tomlinson.

Survivors include her uncle, Sammy Daniels and his wife, Ronna, of El Dorado; special friend and caregiver, Kim Roberts; her dog, Sascha; and a host of cousins.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. today at Bethel Primitive Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors with the Rev. Mark Staples officiatin­g.
