EL DORADO - Caroline Humphreys scored twice Monday as El Dorado stopped Lake Hamilton 2-1 in the 6A West Girls Soccer Tournament at Memorial Stadium. The Lady Wildcats improved to 15-3 and qualified for next week's 6A State Tournament.

El Dorado travels to Siloam Springs on Wednesday in the district tournament semifinals.

"Our next opponent is formidable. We lost to them in the semifinals last year. But, even a broken clock is right twice a day," said El Dorado coach Neville Matthews. "We're going to give it our best shot."

El Dorado led 1-0 at the intermssion after an early goal by Humphreys. A goal by Cross Hughes was wiped away by an offsides flag.

The Lady Wildcats added an insurance score at the 34;42 mark of the second half. Cami Lowrey delivered a perfect, line drive corner kick in front of the goal, straight to the head of Humphreys, who blasted the shot into the back of the net.

"That was textbook. You can't ask for any better than that," said Matthews. "I don't think a goalie in the world could've saved that. That was a textbook goal."

Lake Hamilton missed a long shot off the crossbar. El Dorado's Aida Olmos made a leaping save off Logan Keener's blast from about 40 yards out.

The Lady Wildcats also had a shot deflected away. Carson Henry flicked ahead to Humphreys, whose low shot was knocked away by the Lady Wolves' diving keeper.

But, Lake Hamilton cut the lead in half on a goal by Caitlynn Porter with 5:30 remaining.

El Dorado spent the rest of the game, scrambling on the defensive end.

"They had us on our heels at the end. By no means was it an easy game. We just got the momentum. Coming off a big loss to a team we hadn't lost to in ages. The girls were in the dumps a little bit. But, I think we picked it up some and got the job done," said Matthews.

"I feel like we played well today. That (Nika Rydza) is formidable. She had us on our heels. She could take the pressure. She's got good ball skills. We actually had to change our game plan and put a mark on her. Toward the end, we had to put two marks on her because I didn't want to give up the lead. She was their only weapon. Everything went through her. Other than that, I thought we played well."
