El Dorado falls short in baseball, softball

BENTON - El Dorado is officially in must-win mode.

On Monday, the Wildcats were held to just two hits, as Benton topped El Dorado 7-0 in the opening round of the 6A West Conference Tournament.

Jacob Boshears and Micah Haney had the lone hits for the fifth-seeded Wildcats (1115), who must knock off Lake Hamilton on Wednesday at home to qualify for the state tournament.

The schools split their two meetings during the regular season with each team winning at home.

The game between the Wildcats and eighth-seeded Lake Hamilton is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

Gage Otwell took the loss, allowing eight hits and six runs in 4 1/3 innings. He walked four and struck out two.

Lady Wildcats 4

PEARCY - Lake Hamilton knocked off El Dorado 9-4 Monday in the first round of the 6A West Softball Tournament. The Lady Wildcats will have a final chance to qualify for the 6A State Tournament on Wednesday when they host Siloam Springs at 5 p.m.

Marissa Rice was 3-for-4 at the plate. Kelsey Howard was 1-for-3 and scored twice. Tristen Lewis was 1-for-3 and Sally Walthall had a hit and scored a run.

Payton Scarlett and Grace Hargett were the two pitchers for the Lady Wildcats.
