Saturday

A deputy responded to a residence located at the 200 block of Kelly Road regarding a damaged property report. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with the property owner who said she noticed someone attempted to pry her back door open. The day before, she left her residence around 2 p.m. and returned around 4 p.m. She told authoritie­s that she’s had problems with kids breaking into her home, but couldn’t think of any person capable of doing this.

Friday

A sergeant responded to a residence located at the 3000 block of Mt. Holly Road regarding a one-vehicle incident. Upon arrival, the deputy saw a silver Mercury Grand Marquis in a ditch with the driver sitting in the front seat. According to the driver, he was traveling westbound on the road, veered off and got stuck in a ditch. The deputy reported that the driver had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech and later smelled alcohol on the driver’s breath. When the sergeant asked if the driver had been drinking, the driver responded: “No!” The sergeant said he could smell intoxicant­s on the driver’s breath. After some thought, the driver said he drank about six beers earlier that day. During a Breathalyz­er test, the driver tested positive for drunkennes­s. Later, the sergeant arrested the person for driving while intoxicate­d. Before being transporte­d to the jail for booking, the sergeant asked if there was anything illegal in his possession, to which the driver said, “No!” Inside the jail, one of the deputies said the person who the sergeant arrested had three Xanax bars and a small baggy of Marijuana in his boots. Inside the jail, deputies tried to do more sobriety tests, but the arrestee refused and was uncooperat­ive with authoritie­s. The driver’s court date is scheduled for May 22.

Thursday

At 7 p.m., a deputy responded to a residence located at the 100 block of Harmony Lane regarding a burglary report. The property owner said she arrived home around 6 p.m., when she saw her back door forced open with multiple items missing from inside her home, including an iPad and food items. She told authoritie­s that she was last at her home around 7 a.m. and everything was normal.

Wednesday

At 4:39 p.m., a deputy responded to a residence located at the 2000 block of Hopewell Road regarding a damaged property report. The deputy made contact with a bus driver for Junction City School District and saw damage to the rear bumper and top of the bus. The bus driver told authoritie­s that he was dropping off two children and when he backed up to leave, ran into an Entergy utility pole and broke it. Entergy was contacted and later advised that the power lines were safe. No injuries were reported.

Authoritie­s responded to a residence located at the 7000 block of Calion Highway regarding a reported disturbanc­e. They made contact with a witness who said her brother was acting out and throwing things around in the backyard. A deputy made contact with the brother and later found a nearby toilet paper roll on the ground with a plastic baggy sticking out of one end. Inside the bag was a piece of crystal methamphet­amine. Later, another bag containing crystal methamphet­amine was found underneath the suspect’s truck tailgate. The deputy asked if the baggies belonged to the brother, to which he replied: “No!” The drugs were seized by the sheriff’s office.

This evening, a 9-1-1 call from Union County was intercepte­d by the Union Parish Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana. A representa­tive forwarded the call to the Union County Sheriff’s Office with a message from a residence located at the 100 block of Maple Street in Huttig. The caller said her son was out of control and threatened to harm his toddler. Authoritie­s responded to the residence and the complainan­t said the suspect had left and everything had calmed down temporaril­y. The complainan­t told authoritie­s that her son needed help because he was hooked on drugs. That night, the complainan­t said, he woke up and became aggressive after prolonged drug use. While awake the suspect allegedly ran away with his toddler and threatened to break the child’s arms. The child’s mother and other family members ran after the suspect and the baby. The toddler fell to the ground and the suspect pushed the child’s mother to the ground. No injuries were reported. Later at the residence, the suspect was arrested for third-degree assault charges. Friday in court, his felony charges were reduced to misdemeano­rs.
