Female scholar athletes of 2017 announced.

EL DORADO - The finalists for 2017 Nexans AmerCable/NewsTimes Female Scholar Athlete of the Year are Smackover’s Mallory Brewer, El Dorado’s Caroline Humphreys, El Dorado’s Alexie Pope, Parkers Chapel’s Allison Rogers and Smackover’s Tessa Watson. The finalists will be honored and the winner announced at the annual Nexans AmerCable/NewsTimes Scholar Athlete Awards Banquet, which will be held May 25 at the College Avenue Church of Christ.

Brewer played softball and basketball as a senior for the Lady Bucks. She sported a 4.021 grade point average in the classroom. As a softball pitcher, she helped Smackover to a 33-3 record and regional and district championsh­ips. She was a member of the National Honor Society, Literati, Spanish National Honor Society, HOSA, Gifted & Talented and FCA.

Brewer plans on attending the University of Central Arkansas.

Humphreys played soccer as a senior for the Lady Wildcats. She owned a 4.0 grade point average in the classroom. At forward, she was second on El Dorado’s team in goals scored this season. In class, Humphreys was secretary of the student council and a member of National Honor Society, AP Scholar, Academic Letterman, Top 5% of senior class, Arkansas Scholar, Junior Service League and Beta Club.

Humphreys plans to attend Harding University.

Pope played basketball as a senior for the Lady Wildcats. She finished with a 4.27 grade point average while helping El Dorado’s basketball team advance to the 6A State semifinals. In the classroom, she was Student Council President, Student Body President, President of the steering committee, FBLA president, Vice President of the National Honor Society and a member of the FCA.

Pope plans on attending the University of Arkansas.

Rogers played basketball, softball and tennis as a senior at Parkers Chapel. She boasted a 3.8913 grade point average while winning the 2A State Tennis Doubles championsh­ip. She was a starter in basketball and helped the Lady Trojans win the regional and advance to the 2A state semifinals in softball. Extracurri­cular activities included Beta Club and Gifted & Talented.

Rogers plans to attend Louisiana Tech.

Watson played softball as a senior at Smackover. The centerfiel­der and lead-off hitter earned a 4.163 grade point average while leading the Lady Bucks to the quarterfin­als of the 3A State Softball Tournament. Academical­ly, Watson was a member of the French Club, HOSA, FCA, Anchor Club, student council and was a class officer for two years.

Watson plans to attend Ouachita Baptist University.
