Speakers Circuit: Library director to speak at Kiwanis
Philip Shackelford, library director for South Arkansas Community College, will be the guest speaker when the Kiwanis Club meets at noon on Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church.
Originally from northeast Mississippi, he earned his master’s degree in library and information science, as well as a master’s degree in history from Kent State University in Ohio.
His previous library experience includes work at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum Library and Archives in Cleveland, Ohio; the Western Reserve Historical Society in Cleveland; the Twinsburg Public Library in Ohio; and the University of Akron University Archives in Ohio.

Pam Beasley, superintendent of the Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources, will be the guest speaker when the Civitan Club meets at noon on Thursday at Kozy Kitchen. Beasley will be talking about the upcoming Natural State Chautauqua to be held at the museum at 7 p.m. today, Friday and Saturday.
Beasley is also the director of the Natural State Chautauqua. She has a master’s degree in anthropology and museum studies from the University of Arkansas and a bachelor’s degree in history and anthropology from Mississippi State University.
Beasley has worked in museums since 1985 and started as a student curator at AMNR beginning in 1991 and working up to museum director in 2003.
