JAMES C. BASS JR

James C. Bass Jr., 51, of Norphlet, passed away on May 26, 2017 at Medical Center Of South Arkansas. Arrangemen­ts will be announced by Young's Funeral Directors.

Obituaries JACKIE M. GEAN

Jackie M. Gean, age 87 of Strong, Ark. passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Arbor Lake Nursing Home, Farmervill­e, LA.

Jackie was born on December 19, 1929 to Leo McClendon and Edrie Sharp McClendon Gryder. She was a beautician for over 50 years. She was a charter member of the Strong Bunko Club, where she played every month up to February this year when her health began to fail. Jackie was a member of New London Baptist Church.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother Ronnie McClendon, a sister June Wilson and husband of 56 years James E. “Snapper” Gean.

She is survived a daughter, Dianne G. Wooten (O’Neil), sons David (Mary Lane) Gean and Dennis

Janet Scarlett of El Dorado, and Casey Wooten (Cindy) of Strong. She is also survived by nine great-grandchild­ren: Dylan Laster (Shelby), Taylor Scarlett, Colby Gean, Wyatt Wooten, Payton Scarlett, Hope Wooten, Colton Laster, Jessie Gean and Avery Warren; a sister Anita Toney of Strong and sister-in-law Dorothy McClendon of Alvin Texas and a host of nieces and nephews. Along with a special cousin Bobbie Croft of Dayton, TX and her special friend Percene Fife of Strong; Jackie looked forward to their phone calls every morning and she considered members of New London Baptist Church as family members.

Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Monday, .May 29, 2017 at New London Baptist Church.

Funeral Service will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May, 30, 2017 at New London Baptist Church with Bros. Robert Earl Ballard, Rickey Smith and Terry Burke officiatin­g. Interment will follow at Ebenezer Presbyteri­an cemetery by Youngs Funeral Director.

Vergie Smith

Vergie Kathleen Smith, 82, of Fordyce died Friday, May 16, 2017 at St. John's Place in Fordyce. She was born March 6, 1935 in Thornton to the late Kelly Britten Cranford and Florence Millie Elizabeth Crawford Cranford. She was also preceded in death by her husband John David Smith, her daughter Connie Sue Smith, her brothers Preston, Fred, Barney, Raymond and Claude Cranford, and her sister Lucille Pierce.

She is survived by her five children, Buddy Smith and wife Brenda of El Dorado, Linda Franklin of Fordyce, Mary Huntley and husband Ronnie of Kinglsand, Rose Hopkins of Bearden, Tommy Smith and wife Lawana of Fordyce; one sister Lena Huner of Warren; 11 grandchild­ren; 24 great grandchild­ren, and 5 great-great grandchild­ren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
