Moro Bay State Park offering variety of activities this weekend
MORO BAY STATE PARK — Moro Bay will offer “Kayaking on the Bay” from 9 until 11 a.m. on Sunday and those participating are asked to meet at the marina at the state park, according to Sarah Bullock, seasonal park interpreter.
Participants will explore the intersection of three counties and three bodies of water on a guided kayak tour. “Wading birds, turtles and belted kingfishers are likely critters to spot on the shoreline.
Kids ages 12 and under must ride tandem with an adult and younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult on the tour. First-time paddlers are welcome on this relaxing tour of Moro Bay and the Ouachita River.
Fee includes use of kayak, paddle and lifejacket,” Bullock said.
Space is limited so those planning to attend are asked call ahead or stop by the visitor center to make reservations. Admission is $14 adults, $7 kids ages 6-12 and under 6, free.
For more information or to register, call the Visitor Center at 870463-8555.
From 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday, a free boat tour will be offered and those participating might see wading birds, basking turtles and fishing holes.
They will learn about the history of Moro Bay and the Ouachita River. Seating is limited so those planning to attend are asked to pre-register by calling or stopping by the Visitor Center.
“Pedal Boat Fun” will be a free event held from 3 until 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Marina. “Join a park interpreter and other park guests as we get out and enjoy the water on Moro Bay. Take this opportunity to test you pedal boat skills and stamina as you compete against others in a pedal boat race,” Bullock said.
“It’s All in the Details” will be held from 3 until 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Visitor Information Center.
Admission is free. “If you use all five senses when out in the woods, you might be surprised how much more you discover. Come join a park interpreter as we take a hike through one of Moro Bay’s trails to see what our senses can uncover,” Bullock said.
A Scavenger Hunt will be held from 4 until 4:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Visitor Information Center.
Admission is free and those participating will explore the park in search of items on a list. The winning team will receive a prize.
From 1 until 2 p.m. on Sunday, “Vultures: Nature’s Garbage Disposals,” will be held and those wishing to participate should meet at the Visitor Information Center. “Vultures normally get a bad rap, but here at Moro Bay State Park they play a vital role as nature’s own garbage disposals.
Join us on a boat ride to learn about these unique birds, their roles and have the opportunity to see some in their natural habitat as we explore the waterways,” Bullock said.
