Two Razorbacks named to watch lists
FAYETTEVILLE Arkansas Razorbacks senior quarterback Austin Allen is among 30 quarterbacks on the Davey O’Brien Award watch list released Wednesday in Fort Worth.
Named for the late Davey O’Brien, the TCU Horned Frogs Heisman Trophy winning quarterback, the Davey O’Brien Award in December honors the nation’s most outstanding quarterback.
Allen’s 2016 credentials for 2017 consideration include leading the SEC in passing for all games with 3,430 yards and in SEC games with 2,291 yards.
Allen completed 245 of 401 passes with 25 touchdowns against 15 interceptions.
One of six SEC quarterbacks on the O’Brien Award watch list, Allen was voted third-team Preseason All-SEC by media at last week’s SEC media days in Hoover, Ala.
He is already is on the watch list for the
Maxwell Award that in December is awarded to college football’s best all-around player.
Arkansas senior center Frank Ragnow, already on the Outland Trophy and Rimington Trophy watch lists and voted first-team Preseason All-SEC by media last week has been named to the Wuerffel Trophy watch list.
Voted Preseason firstteam All-SEC by media voters at last week’s SEC media days, Ragnow already adorns preseason watch lists for Outland Trophy, honoring the nation’s best lineman, and the Rimington Trophy, honoring the nation’s best center.
The Wuerffel, named for former Florida Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Danny Wuerffel, honors the player “who best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement."
