LaMARCUS D. CANDLEY LaMarcus D. Candley, 26, of North Little Rock, passed away July 21,2017

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. John Missionary Baptist

Church in El Dorado with the Rev. Alvin McGehee officiatin­g. Interment will be in Springhill Cemetery in Springhill, Louisiana under the direction of Paradise Funeral Home of Pine Bluff. Family hour will be from 4 to 5 p.m. at Paradise Funeral Home.

LARRY D. HALE JR. Funeral for Larry Dean Hale Jr., 42, of Huttig, will be at 2 p.m. today at Harper Springs Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. James “Buddy” Morris and Bro. Chad White officiatin­g.

Interment will follow at Harper Springs Cemetery under the direction of Perry’s Funeral Chapels.

HAROLD C. NELSON Harold Columbus Nelson, 98, of Friendswoo­d, Texas, and formerly of Strong and El Dorado, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. today at Young’s Funeral Directors in El Dorado, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. and burial in the Strong Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Mark United Methodist Church, 2010 W. Hillsboro St., El Dorado, AR 71730.

MILDRED L. BANKS Mildred Louise Banks, 96, of Calion passed away on Monday,

July 24, 2017 at her home. She was born Nov. 25, 1920, to Garland and Emma Ward in Caledonia, Arkansas.

She was a member of Willow Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she was an usher. She loved to garden and story tell.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Banks; and three children, Ira Banks Jr., Willie Banks and Patricia Ross Riley.

Survivors are eight children, Gloria Whitney of Van Alstyne, Texas, Etha Burns of El Dorado, Carl Banks of Arlington, Texas, Joann Williams of Calion, Gwendolyn Banks of Calion, Linda Washington of Lawrencevi­lle, Georgia, Robert Banks of Little Rock, and Vicki Davis of Calion.

Public visitation will be from noon until 6 p.m. today at Sims Mortuary.

Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Willow Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Doyle McGhee, eulogist.

Interment will be at Caledonia Cemetery under the direction of Sims Mortuary.

JoANN DYESS JoAnn Thompson Dyess, 85, of Greenbrier, Arkansas formerly of El Dorado, died on Wednesday,

July 26,

2017, at Hospice Home Care in Little

Rock.

Born on Sept. 10, 1931, in El Dorado, she was the daughter of Horace Douglas and Lucy Allen Thompson. JoAnn lived in El Dorado until 2010, when she moved to Greenbrier, to be closer to her family. While in El Dorado, JoAnn was a member of Harmony Baptist Church. After moving to Greenbrier, she very quickly became a member of Springhill Baptist Church, where she was very active in her Sunday School class and all other senior activities.

JoAnn enjoyed tole painting, needlework, all kinds of shopping and attending antique auctions. She had a very beautiful collection of cut glassware that she treasured. JoAnn will be remembered for her delicious homemade pies which also included fresh apple and peach fried pies. JoAnn enjoyed providing her family with the best fresh shrimp meals which took hours to prepare.

JoAnn worked at Sample’s Department Store in El Dorado in the shoe department for several years and later worked as a sitter for the elderly.

JoAnn married Vernon Dyess on Dec. 9, 1948. He preceded her death in 2006. Also preceding her in death were her parents; five siblings, Lucille Dickerson, Inez Bishop, Avanell Tidwell, June Layton, and Horace D. Thompson, Jr.; and a son-in-law, Doug Eenigenbur­g.

JoAnn is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth (Liz) Strayer, (Floyd) of Greenbrier, and Dorinda Eenigenbur­g of Conway, Arkansas. She leaves behind four grandchild­ren, Dory Thornton, Dara Tapley, Cody Eenigenbur­g and Ryan Eenigenbur­g; five great-grandchild­ren, Brayden Fisher, Ashton Fisher, Carley Tapley, Riley Thornton, and Reese Thornton. JoAnn is also survived by the last sibling of the family, her sister and best friend, Donnie Nale of El Dorado.

Services will be held at Springhill Baptist Church near Greenbrier, officiated by Bro. Ed Stephenson at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2017.

Burial will follow at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Woodlawn Cemetery in El Dorado, officiated by the Rev. Sam Whitlow. Visitation will be held at Roller McNutt Funeral Home in Greenbrier from 5 until 7 p.m., today.

ADA B. KNIGHTENOW­ENS

Ada B. KnightenOw­ens, 79, of El Dorado passed away on Friday, July 21, 2017. She was born

Sept. 24,

1937 in Junction City, Arkansas, to Charlie Knighten and

Sudie Pickens.

She was a member of Bouldware Temple Church of God in Christ, where she served on the mother’s board and the executive board.

She married Herman Owens Jr., and he preceded her in death.

Survivors are two sons, Herman Owens and Superinten­dent Kelly Owens, both of El Dorado; and two sisters, Earlene Hill and Dorothy Larry.

Public visitation will be from noon until 6 p.m. today at Sims Mortuary. The homegoing celebratio­n will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, at Bouldware Temple Church of God in Christ with Bishop Joe B. Mason, presiding officer and chief officiant, Elder Sandy Brown, officiatin­g and Superinten­dent Kelly Owens, host pastor.

Interment will be in Community Cemetery in Junction City, under the direction of Sims Mortuary.

HOWARD L. TURNER Pastor Howard Lee Turner, 77, of El Dorado, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2017 at UAMS in Little Rock.

He was born to Clayborn and Bertha Root Turner on Sept.

26, 1939 in Carthage, Arkansas.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Willie Mae Turner and Marcia Turner; two brothers, Levi Turner and Clayborn Turner; and a godson, DeWayne McCraney.

Pastor Turner accepted his calling in 1956, evangelizi­ng throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada. He was the founder and pastor of United Covenant Ministries in Smackover.

He leaves to cherish his memories two children, Velvet Tuner Sims of Tallulah, Louisiana and John Turner of Holland, Michigan; four brothers, Lee Turner of Palm Springs, Colorado, Robert Turner of Junction City, Kansas, Jeffery Holiman of Los Angeles, and Tommy Root of Mount Clair, California; three sisters, Vergea Walker, Barbara Johnson, and Erma McDowell, all of Las Vegas.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at St. James Missionary Baptist Church in El Dorado, with Pastor Eichelberg­er, eulogist.

Interment will be Lott Burgy Cemetery under the direction of Sims Mortuary.
