South Arkansas Arts Center to announce 2017-2018 theater season

-

South Arkansas Arts Center will announce its 54th theater season with a Hollywood inspired soiree and the salute to Hollywood announcement party at 7 p.m. Aug. 19 in the Price and Merkle Galleries at the arts center, 110 E. Fifth St., El Dorado.

The theater committee has made its choices for the next season and the plays are all related to classic movies from the Golden Era, according to a news release from Susan Harper at the arts center.

She said the selection includes one iconic comedy, as well as two musicals and a holiday revue for the season, and the names of the productions will be revealed during the announcement party. Setting the tone for the evening, SAAC actors will present “Completely Hollywood (Abridged),” a fast-paced, action packed salute to Old Hollywood. Costumes are suggested for the night and the committee asks that everyone embrace the Hollywood theme and come dressed as their favorite movie star from the silent era through the

’50s. Food and cocktails will be Hollywood inspired, as well, Harper said.

“The Golden Age of Hollywood brings with it an aura of mystique and romance unmatched by the film industry today,” said Gary Hall, chairman of the theater committee. “This was the era of stars who shone brighter than the heavens. Each of these stars and films brought with them iconography that is still part of our culture today.

“We simply cannot wait to unveil our choices and hope the community will embrace the season and the party by dressing in the style of famous celebrities from the ages past. People love to dress up and creativity abounds when our community puts its collective heads together. We can promise an evening of fun, entertainment and hopefully, pleasant surprises. We hope you’ll be saying with all of us: ‘Hooray, It’s Hollywood,’” Hall said.

Tickets for the event will be $10 for everyone. For more information or to reserve tickets, call the SAAC office at 870-862-5474 or visit www.saac-arts.org.
