Travel Emporium changes ownership

A new owner has taken the helm at the Travel Emporium at 103 E. Main St.

According to a news release, Genie Humphries has become the fifth owner in the 65-year history of the business. Humphries began at the business as a trainee in 2001.

After further studies and seven years of experience, she became agency manager in 2008.

Humphries is taking over from Clara Jones, who is retiring after 21 years as owner. According to the release, Jones still will be available for client consultati­ons.

Humphries is a member of the Internatio­n Associatio­n of Travel Agents, a Disney certified vacation planner, an airlines reporting specialist, CLIA certified cruise specialist, a Caribbean destinatio­n specialist, a certified Ireland specialist and a Princess One Source Academy graduate, among other certificat­ions.

She has lived most of her life in Union County. She is married to Jeremy Humphries, adn they have a daughter, Anna Grace Langston, who is a sophomore at Parkers Chapel High School.

They are foster parents and active members of Parkers Chapel First Baptist Church.

The release stated that “Humphries is looking forward to steering the course for The Travel Emporium in the ever changing environmen­t of booking and informatio­n technology, and anticipate­s the agency will continue serving clients for many years to come.”

The release notes that clients likely will not see much change in the dayto-day operations.
