The history of Maranatha Baptist Christian School
Maranatha Baptist Christian School is a ministry of Bible Baptist Church. The school was founded in 1982 as a ministry of Maranatha Baptist Church. It became a ministry of Bible Baptist Church in 1994 under the leadership of Pastor J.D. Weido. Maranatha’s philosophy is built on basic biblical principles. Students are taught to see life from God’s point of view, to take responsibility for their own learning, and to walk in wisdom.
Maranatha Baptist Christian School utilizes the Accelerated Christian Education curriculum. Accelerated Christian Education has been assisting pastors and home-school parents with a Bible–based K–12 curriculum for almost 50 years. From its humble beginnings in 1970, ACE is now worldwide, with a reach in more than 140 countries. Through its philosophy of Bible–based instruction, phonics, mastery– based learning, and individualization, ACE aims to continue its mission of “Reaching the World for Christ… One Child at a Time.”
Recognized as a Model School by School of Tomorrow, MBCS is also a member of the American Association of Christian Schools. The school participates in athletics in the Arkansas Christian School Association; fielding elementary, junior high, and varsity teams in both basketball and volleyball.
Accelerated Christian Education’s concepts are based on the following Five Basic Laws of Learning:
1. A child must be at a level where he can perform.
2. He must have reasonable goals.
3. His learning must be controlled, and he must be motivated.
4. His learning must be measurable.
5. His learning must be rewarded.
Based on these principles, the ACE curriculum assures parents of:
• A solid, mastery-based, backto-basics education for their child.
• A course of study diagnostically individualized to meet a student’s specific learning needs and capabilities.
• A program incorporating Scripture, Godly character building, and wisdom principles.
• A curriculum using advanced computer technology to help ensure the finest education possible in today’s high-tech climate.
Using the School of Tomorrow Curriculum published by Accelerated Christian Education, MBCS provides a biblically based program geared to meet learning needs of children in grades K-12. Students are tested diagnostically upon entering the program. Students are then placed in the curriculum in each subject at their own performance levels determined by the results of the diagnostic tests.
Whether the student is a high achiever or a moderately paced learner, the educational process proceeds at the exact level determined by the child’s ability. Individualization produces academic excellence by making it possible for each student to master the subject before moving on.
At Maranatha, we realize that teaching is training. Training for life must include training for eternity. Our objective is to first teach a child how to live and second, how to make a living. MBCS. is dedicated to the training of children in a program of study, activity, and living that is Christcentered. Students learn to see life from God’s point of view. Their personal relationship with God and their personal responsibilities to family, church, and community are of primary concern.
This is what Christian education is really all about. The goal is not just to provide superior education to students focused on living for themselves. Christian education is about teaching children so their lives can be directed by God for His eternal purposes.
