Arts Center Academy registering for fall semester
The South Arkansas Arts Center’s Arts Academy will offer a new roster of classes and instructors for the 2017 fall semester. Classes are offered for all ages, from preschool through high school. Registration is open now in the SAAC office. The first week of the fall class schedule will begin Aug. 28-31, and most classes meet for 12 weeks, said Susan Harper at the arts center. New to the fall lineup of classes this year is a drama class for kids that will be taught by new instructors, Alex Jeffrey and Emily Cole. The newly formed PreK 4 class, being offered for the first time, will meet from 3:15 until 4 p.m. Thursdays at a cost of $120 for SAAC members and $140 for non-members. Drama K-1 will meet from 4:15 until 5:15 p.m. Thursdays. Drama 2-3 will be offered from 3:30 until 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Drama 4-6 will meet from 4:455:45. The price for drama classes K-6 is $125/$145.
Also for children in preschool, Gay Bechtelheimer will teach a PreK 4 Art class which will meet from 3:15 until 4 p.m. Mondays. The
cost is $120/$140.
New beginner piano and voice instructor, Charlsie Falcon, will offer private lessons in both. The cost of private instruction is $300/$320 for 12 weeks of 30 minute lessons.
Lynn Gunter will teach Drama Club for students in grades seven through 12 from 4 until 6 p.m. Thursdays. Drama Club will be producing the musical, “Fiddler on the Roof Jr.” this fall. Drama Club participants will also have some additional dance rehearsals scheduled on select Tuesday afternoons and toward the end of the semester before the performances on Dec. 2-4. Students will be responsible for their character’s shoes and costume. Therefore, the cost of the class has been reduced to $80/$100.
Amy Allen will again head up Glee, which will meet from
3:45 until 4:45 p.m. Mondays for grades one through 12. Cost will be $125/$145.
Visual Arts instructor Maria Villegas will offer classes in art for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. K-1 will meet from 3:30 until 4:30 Tuesdays. The cost is $125/$145. Villegas will offer classes for students in second and third grades from 4:30 until 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays, at a cost of $125/$145.
Visual art for students in grades four through six with Villegas will be offered from 3:45 until 5 p.m. Mondays and the cost is $140/$160.
For students in grades seven through 12, Villegas will offer visual arts from 4:30 until 5:45 p.m. Wednesdays and the cost of the class is $140/$160.
Special Gifts/Special Needs Art with instructors Jorge and Maria Villegas will be offered from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays. The class will meet for 12 weeks. Students will explore different ways of expression through the visual
arts. Students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Ballet instructor Stephanie Lowrey will offer Ballet Level 1 for students in K through first grade. The class will meet from 4 until 4:45 p.m. Mondays for 12 weeks. Level 1 will place emphasis on ballet fundamentals and music connection. The cost of the class is $120/$140.
Ballet Level 2, for students in second through sixth grades, will meet from 5 until 6 p.m. Mondays. Ballet 2 students will focus on developing techniques learned in Level 1. The cost of the class will be $125/$145.
For students in grades seven through 12, Lowrey will offer Ballet Level 3 from 5 until 7 p.m. Mondays and from 4 until 5:15 p.m. on Wednesdays. Cost is $210/$230. Ballet 3 students will focus on developing techniques learned in Level 2.
Graphic artist Mike Means will offer graphic arts for students in second and third grades. The class will meet from 3:30 until 4:30 p.m. Mondays and the cost of the class will be $125/$140.
Means will also offer graphic arts class for students in fourth through sixth grades from 4:45 until 5:45 p.m. Mondays. The class will meet for 12 weeks and the cost of the class is $125/$140.
For students in grades seventh through 12th, Means will offer graphic arts from 5:30 until 7 p.m. Mondays and the cost will be $125/$140.
Private lessons are also available in fine arts with Jorge Villegas and Maria Villegas and computer arts with Mike Means. Contact the instructor to schedule.
