Parents, talk to your kids
To The Editor:
Kids will be soon going back to school, most, many for the first time. Before that happens, parents should, if they have not already done so, have that important talk with their children about being respectful to others. Parents should explain to their children that some children may be different in the way they look, dress and talk, but they should be treated as equals. Parents, teach your children that it is wrong and not accepted to bully or poke fun of other kids. Parents, teach your children to always report to teachers or other authorities any bullying they might witness. It is not being a snitch to report to someone that a student is being mistreated.
If parents will make the effort to do just the simple things to make their child aware of what is the right thing to do in the event of bad behavior of students, it will go a long way toward making the coming school year a good and safe experience for their child as well as others.
Probably the greatest problem that parents will face will be teachers not doing their part to make school a safe environment for the children. Nine times out of ten, when there is a bullying going on of a student, some teacher knows about it before it gets out of hand, but the attitude most teachers take is “oh! It’s just kids being kids.” There is no such situation now days, kids have become too aggressive in today’s society. Little disagreements are blown out of proportion by agitators. Teachers have to step in and nip these situations in the bud before they escalate into real trouble. It is the teacher’s duty and responsibility to not let disagreements between students go unchecked. Do your job teacher and handle your responsibility and make school a safe and happy environment for all your students.
