Two individual­s killed Thursday in separate vehicle wrecks

One man and an unidentifi­ed minor were killed Thursday in separate wrecks in the area.

Emergency responders from Union and Ashley counties were called just after midnight to the scene of a single-vehicle accident on U.S. 82 in eastern Union County.

Arkansas State Police is investigat­ing the accident and did not release the name of the victim, who was a minor, or his city of residence.

A preliminar­y accident report indicated that the boy was the driver in the accident.

The accident occurred at 12:01 a.m. near mile marker 10, east of Strong.

Union County Sheriff Ricky Roberts said the sheriff’s office was asked to assist state police and emergency responders from Ashley County.

State police said the boy was traveling west on U.S. 82 when he lost control of his vehicle, a 2006 Ford model, ran off the road and crashed into a tree.

The body was being held in Ashley County Medical Center in Crossett.

An early morning wreck on Highway 167, south of El Dorado, left a 21-year-old Junction City man dead after his vehicle collided with a semitraile­r.

According to the Arkansas State Police preliminar­y fatal crash summary, Calen Summervill­e was headed south on Junction City Highway at 5:55 a.m. when his vehicle crossed over the center line into the path of a semitraile­r. The semitraile­r then collided with Summervill­e’s vehicle in the northbound lane.

The report did not specify how Summervill­e ended up in the northbound lane and a police representa­tive was unable to specify.

Summervill­e was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Union County Coroner Curtis Butterfiel­d.

Malcolm Braggs, the driver of the semitraile­r, 53, of Ruston, Louisiana was treated for his injuries at the Medical Center of South Arkansas.
