SAAC to host landscape workshop
South Arkansas Arts Center will host a three day landscape workshop with Wyoming artist Gary Huber November 9-11, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Artists are invited to take part in this highly praised learning experience with a nationally known and respected artist. Cost for the workshop is $350 and must be paid by September 15 to guarantee participation.
This three day workshop will focus on painting the landscape in the medium of your choice. He will demonstrate pastel painting each day, building paintings from concept to final touch. Exercise design skills and discover the secrets of using light, atmosphere and composition to enhance the emotional impact of a painting.
Huber is an award-winning landscape painter who works mainly in the pastel medium. His classes are highly praised and often sold out. He makes his home in Wyoming but travels from Maine to California in search of scenes to inspire his dramatic pastel paintings.
While Huber took his time coming to fine art as a profession, he has quickly accrued numerous awards and his paintings have found their way into collections across the United States. Recent honors include several Best of Show and First Place awards in national exhibitions, the Buffalo Bill Historical Center Award and placement in the Pastel 100 competition. Huber is a Master Signature Member of the Pastel Society of Colorado, recipient of a Master Circle Medallion from the International Association of Pastel Societies, a signature member of Pastel Society of America, Pastel Society of the West Coast and Northwest Pastel Society, and a member of Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters and California Art Club. His work has been exhibited at the Butler Institute of American Art, The Haggin Museum, the National Arts Club in New York City and The Brinton Museum.
Huber spends his time painting, hiking and traveling the country’s National Parks and wilderness, seeking out-of-the-way places to gather new material and inspiration. He and his wife reside in Buffalo, Wyoming, with a breathtaking view of the Bighorn Mountains, which held a one-man show for him in 2015. His website is garyhuberart.com.
Participants may register and pay by phone at the SAAC office at 870862-5474. Oil painters are welcome – demos will be done in pastel. Limited space is available. The SAAC is located at 110 East Fifth Street in El Dorado.
