Junction City opens season with road victory
BEARDEN - Gabe Richard threw two touchdowns passes, while Jamal Johnson and Darin Brown added touchdown runs of their own, as Junction City topped Bearden 28-12 in junior high football on Thursday night.
Richard threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to K.D. Smith in the opening period before connecting with Jeremiah Williams on a 25-yard touchdown pass just before halftime that gave the Dragons (1-0) a 20-12 lead.
Johnson, who came up with a big play on defense in the fourth quarter with an interception, had an 11-yard run in the second quarter.
Brown, who carried in the two-point conversion after Johnson's touchdown in the second period, scored on a 5-yard run in the third quarter.
The freshman also successfully ran in the two-point conversion to cap the scoring in the contest.

Sharmon Rester threw a touchdown pass and ran for another, as the Wildkittens won their season opener at Memorial Stadium.
After a scoreless first quarter, Rester threw a 30-yard strike to Connor Black to open the scoring.
Leading 6-0 at intermission, Barton (1-0) put the game away with a pair of scores in the third quarter.
On the opening drive of the second half, Ahmad Marbray scored on a 40-yard run, and Jyrin Steward ran in the two-point conversion to push the lead to 14-0.
With 90 seconds left in the period, Rester had a 20-yard touchdown run to cap the scoring.
In opening their season with a win, the coaching staff singled out the defense for their play in shutting out the Panthers.
