Trojans topple Panthers

-

News-Times Staff MAGNET COVE - If Friday’s season opener is any indication, fans of Parkers Chapel football may be in for a wild ride.

Caleb Jacobs threw five touchdown passes, including a 38-yard strike to Canon Morgan with 2:20 left before breaking a 41-all tie with the game-winning run on a two-point conversion to lead to the Trojans to a 43-41 win at Magnet Cove.

Trailing 41-29 with six minutes left, the Trojans cut the Panthers’ lead in half thanks to the third touchdown collaboration by Jacobs and Morgan.

The duo then hooked up again to tie the game moments later, and Jacobs’ aforementioned successful run on the two-point conversion gave the Trojans a 43-41 edge.

Parkers Chapel’s defense then sealed the win thanks to Jacoby Edwards stripping the ball free, and Ty Couch recovered the fumble to seal the win.

“They did a great job of controlling the line of scrimmage,” said Parkers Chapel coach Jacob Midyett, who won his debut as the Trojans’ head coach. “Our kids continued to fight, and they pulled it out at the last second.”

Overall, Jacobs and Morgan collaborated for four touchdowns with Jacobs also throwing a touchdown pass to Dequa Henderson.

A sophomore, Jacobs also ran for a score.

The Trojans (1-0) will host Spring Hill next week.
