United Way, Noalmark, First Financial raise funds for Harvey recovery The United Way of Union County, along with Noalmark Broadcasting and First Financial Bank, are teaming up to help residents in Texas and Louisiana affected by Hurricane Harvey.
From now until Thursday, anyone can stop by a First Financial Bank location or the radio station at 2525 N. West Ave. and make a monetary donation that will be sent to the United Way Harvey Recovery Fund and distributed to those who need it most. Funds will help with food, shelter, supplies and basic needs for thousands - not only for the immediate need now, but as they start to rebuild.
On Thursday, you can make your donation from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 2525 N. West Ave. as Noalmark radio stations broadcast live during this relief event.

Local Cub Scout Pack to host info session Cub Scout Pack 18 is inviting boys in kindergarten through fifth grade and their parents to attend an informational session from 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Boys & Girls Club on North West Avenue. Logoly State Park to offer hunter education

Any person born after Dec. 31, 1968 must have successfully completed an approved hunter education course before hunting in the state of Arkansas, according to state law.
Logoly State Park is offering a hunter education course Sept. 9-10 and Sept. 16-17. On Saturdays, class will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. On Sundays, class begins at 1 p.m. and ends at 5 p.m.
All scheduled classes must be attended and the final exam passed to complete the course. The course includes classes in firearm safety, wildlife management, sportsmanship, bow hunting, muzzle loading, first aid and more.
The course is recommended for individuals 11 years of age and up. It is offered free of charge but class size is limited so pre-registration is required. All registration is done online at agfc.com.

Local photographer wins competition Local professional photographer Greg Owens, an honored member of the Arkansas Professional Photographers Association (APPA) recently attended Capture 2017/Bedfords Expo, the annual APPA state convention held in Little Rock, where he received several awards in the state photographic image competition.
His photograph entitled, “Calm in Storm,” received the Blue Ribbon “Distinguished Print” Merit award. His Print “Of Pillars and Arches” also earned a merit while scoring in the excellent range and winning first place in the wedding category. His last print titled “Corporate Nights” took first place in the Commercial division. These awards are only given to photographs scoring between 80-100 by thorough and rigorous judging.
Along with his print awards, Owens also earned the honor of being named the 2017 Arkansas Wedding Photographer of the Year.
The official image competition is held each year at the APPA state convention where prints are judged by a panel comprised of top professional photographers from all over the United States.
Owens has served the El Dorado-Union County area for more than 10 years and focuses on wedding, seniors and commercial photography. El Dorado Schools plan
annual reports Annual Reports to the Public will be presented at schools in the El Dorado School District beginning Monday.
At 5 p.m. Monday, a report will be presented at Barton Junior High School and at 6 p.m. Sept. 12 at all elementary school campuses – Hugh Goodwin, Northwest, Retta Brown and Yocum.
At 5:30 p.m. Sept. 18, the Annual Report to the Public will be given at Washington Middle School and at 6 p.m. on Sept. 25, the report will be presented at El Dorado High School. At 5 p.m. Sept. 25, a report will be presented at the Murmil Education Center.
