Dragons destroy England
ENGLAND – The Junction City Dragons won in dominating fashion, rolling past England 50-0 Friday evening.
Junction City used an aggressive rushing attack, which was spearheaded by Hishmma Taylor’s 228 yards on 20 carries, to easily earn a road win over the Lions.
It didn’t take long for the Dragons to establish control.
“We came out and competed with great urgency early. We played at a fast tempo,” said Dragon Coach Steven Jones. “We took good care of the ball. We were able to use a big combination of players in this game and that’s really good for us.”
Junction City, which is now 2-0 overall, grabbed the lead with 10:39 left in the opening quarter when Dhante Gibson scored on a 17-yard touchdown run. The junior then successfully converted a two-point
attempt, making the score 8-0.
The Dragons’ onslaught had now begun.
Junction City increased its lead when Shuvasceiaye Frazier completed a 32-yard touchdown pass to Jakboe Fisher. Taylor then busted into the end zone for the two-point conversion run. With 7:30 remaining in the first, Junction City led 16-0.
Following an interception by Brady Hutcheson, the Dragons would soon capitalize on the England miscue.
Taylor ran five yards for a touchdown with 5:23 left in the first period. The senior’s twopoint conversion run increased the Dragon advantage to 24-0.
Near the midway point of the second quarter, Frazier used a combination of speed and strength to score on an impressive 32-yard quarterback keeper. Frazier’s two-point conversion carry made the score 32-0.
England would later fall further behind, due to excellent special teams execution by the Dragons.
Tykeon Hollidy fielded a Lion punt, alertly allowed a pair of blocks to set-up, and then exploded through a massive hole. He would cruise to the end zone for a 68-yard punt return. After a failed two-point attempt, the Dragon lead was 38-0 with 6:44 remaining in the first half.
England fell further behind in the closing moments of the second quarter when Frazier ran three yards for a touchdown. After a failed twopoint attempt, the score was 44-0.
At the half, England (0-2) faced a massive deficit.
In the third and fourth quarters, with the sportsmanship rule in effect, the Lions were unable to build any momentum.
With just over four minutes remaining in the game, Jakiron Cook ran 15 yards for a touchdown. Cook then used his legs to convert the two-point attempt stretching the Dragon lead to 50-0.
“I’m impressed with how hard the guys played. They’ve bought into what we do,” Jones said. “They always play extremely hard.”
