The South Arkansas Arts Center box office is now open for tickets and reservations for the fall production of “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” which will open Oct. 19 and run from Oct. 21-25. SAAC box office hours are from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. El Dorado resident, Alexander Jeffery, will direct this production.

“Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” written by Truman Capote, tells the story of a young Southern-born writer, known as Fred, who becomes infatuated with his Upper East Side neighbor, the beguiling, effervescent beauty, Holly Golightly. As Holly pulls Fred into her world of spontaneous parties and luxury, he finds himself increasingly fascinated with this captivating young woman.

The arts center will also host a “Talk Back Tuesday” event at 7 p.m. before the curtain goes up at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 24. Dr. James A. Yates, Ph.D., interim associate vice president for arts, sciences and academic support and dean of liberal arts at South Arkansas Community College, will speak on little known facts about “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.”

Yates said about his topic, “It’s been 56 years since the release of Blake Edwards’ classic adaptation of Truman Capote’s 1958 novella. The film made a star out of Audrey Hepburn and cemented her as a fashion icon. As everyone who has read the book and seen the 1961 film knows, there are a number of major differences between Capote’s novella and George Axelrod’s screenplay. I want to explore those differences a bit and what makes this film such a classic for audiences.” Yates will also lead a question and answer event after the show with the cast that same night.

A first for SAAC during this production will be the addition of a few “actors” chosen from the community who will play partygoers at Holly Golightly’s cocktail party on stage. These “actors” will change each night during the run of the play. SAAC will announce the names of the guest actors at a later date.

Raffle tickets are available for purchase for a 51-inch pearl rope necklace that will be given away by Murphy-Pitard Jewelers at the last performance on Oct. 25. Tickets for this raffle are $20 and are available from SAAC board members, Murphy-Pitard Jewelers and the SAAC office.
