Seahawks prevail at Mystic Creek
News-Times Staff Balanced scoring proved to be the deciding factor on the final day of the second annual Duck Commander Intercollegiate Golf Tournament, as North Carolina-Wilmington erased a three-stroke deficit to win the title at Mystic Creek Golf Club on Tuesday.
Patrick Cover guided the Seahawks by winning the individual crown by two strokes over Central Arkansas' Lewis George.
Cover shot a 78 on Tuesday to finish with a three-day score of 222.
Blake McShea had a 73, while Reese McFarlane and Thomas Eldridge each shot 76 to give the Seahawks a seven-stroke win over runner-up Louisiana Tech, who jumped up from eighth place after the second round thanks to a terrific performance on Tuesday.
Felix Palson fired a 74 to finish three strokes behind Cover for third in the tournament, and Ryan Alford also had a 74 for the Bulldogs.
Central Arkansas finished third with TexasSan Antonio fourth and Arkansas State fifth.
Eastern Kentucky, who entered Tuesday's final round with a one-stroke lead, finished sixth.
Individually, Little Rock's Justin Warren followed his 70 on Monday with a 76 on Tuesday to finish in a three-way
tie for fourth place with Western Kentucky's Billy Tom Sargent and Southeastern Louisiana's Joris Eltin.
Sargent surged up the leaderboard by firing a 72, which was Tuesday's lowest round.
