Tomorrow

Wear your patriotic colors and join Southern Arkansas University’s annual Veterans Day tribute from noon to 1 p.m at the Reynolds Center Grand Hall.

The SAU President’s Ambassador­s will provide shuttle services from the parking area as needed. Scheduled to speak at the tribute is SAU President Dr. Trey Berry. Colors will be posted and retired by the 1-153 Infantry Battalion Color Guard from Hope. Inspiring entertainm­ent will be provided by talented SAU students.

South Arkansas Community College will host a Veteran’s Appreciati­on Day ceremony from 12:30 to 12:45 p.m. Tables will be set up in the Conference Center for students, faculty and staff to bring in military memorabili­a of themselves or family members.

Thursday

Norphlet Middle School will have a Veterans Day assembly at 8:30 a.m. in the auditorium that will involve the band and choir performing patriotic music along with some students giving patriotic readings. NMS invites veterans from around the area and have a reception in the library after the assembly.

Retired Col. Nate Todd will be the guest speaker during the Veterans Day Celebratio­n scheduled for noon at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Veterans Day activities will be held in the STEM building on the first floor and vendors in the lobby with booths for veteran’s benefits. An indoor picnic will follow the formal ceremony.

The Smackover High School choir and band will present at a Veterans Day Assembly at 12:30 p.m. in the Hobgood Auditorium.

Friday

At 8 a.m., a flag-raising ceremony will be held in honor of Veterans Day at the UAPB Informatio­n Center, located on corner of University Drive and Fluker Street.

Junction City High School will have its annual Veterans Program at 9 a.m. in the Multipurpo­se Room with a reception following the program. All area veterans and their families are invited to attend the program and reception.

Smackover Elementary School students will present the school’s annual Veterans Day program will be held at 9 a.m. in the Hobgood Auditorium. Veterans attending will receive a voucher for lunch in the Smackover cafeteria. All veterans are invited to attend.

Hugh Goodwin Elementary School will its Veterans Day Parade at 10 a.m. The parade will start at Hugh Goodwin, proceed west on 5th St. to the TAC House and then return to school. If you know a veteran, the school invites him/her to join students as it honors them and the sacrificed they made for the country. All students are asked to wear red, white and blue.

Northwest Elementary School will be having a student led pep rally in honor of the veterans. Grades 2-4 will go at 2:00 p.m. and grades K-1 will be around 2:30 p.m. The school invites local veterans to come be guests of honor.

Washington Middle School will commemorat­e Veterans Day with a special presentati­on led by Commander Roz Cox of the VFW. She will be accompanie­d by the current Coast Guard Commander, along with eight students from WMS.

Students will help the veterans dress the “empty table,” which is a POW/MIA remembranc­e table. Commander Chandler Fennel, grandfathe­r of a WMS student, will also be present for the ceremony. A moment of silence will be held during the lunch shift to honor Veterans.
