Arkansas quarterback arrested on suspicion of DWI

FAYETTEVILLE - Redshirt freshman quarterback Cole Kelley was arrested by Fayetteville police on suspicion of careless driving and driving while intoxicated Sunday morning.

He was booked at 8:47 a.m. CT. Kelley was spotted driving his black Toyota Tundra westbound on Wedington Avenue. Oddly enough, the officer who stopped him wrote in his report that near the intersection of Wedington and Steamboat, both of Kelley's passenger side tires were on the curb on the north side of the street. The Steamboat Package is what Arkansas' coaches had called a particular running package they had installed earlier in the season for Kelley.

“I was informed early this morning of an incident involving Cole Kelley," Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema said in a statement. "We are gathering all information from the proper authorities and will make a determination upon review of that information.”

The officer pulled Kelley over as the quarterback pulled into the Taco Bell. The officer noticed Kelley's eyes were red and watery. When the officer asked Kelley to get out of his vehicle to perform a field sobriety test he noticed he had a Medical brace on his right foot. At that point, the officer didn't ask Kelley to perform the walk and turn, but did the other two tests. He noted in his report that Kelley performed those two in a manner consistent with intoxication.

Kelley refused to provide a portable breath sample stating his parents told him not to provide a sample for a test unless he was required to do so. At that point, Kelley was placed under arrest and taken to the Washington County Detention Center. Later, Kelley was requested to provide a urine sample and he agreed to do so.

Against the Tigers, Kelley was 3 of 10 passing for 36 yards and one interception while playing the final two series of the game.

He has completed 57.6 percent of his passes this season for a team-high 1,038 yards. Kelley also has eight passing touchdowns, two rushing touchdowns, four interceptions and four lost fumbles.

Bielema is expected to address this issue during his normal weekly press conference on Monday at noon.
