Newton House announces holiday open house

The South Arkansas Historical Preservati­on Society has announced that the Annual Newton House Museum Christmas Open House will be held from 1 until 4 p.m. Sunday at the house, 510 N. Jackson, El Dorado.

The Newton House Museum has been decorated with period decoration­s and will be open for tours. Santa Claus will be on hand for pictures so those attending should bring cameras. Refreshmen­ts will be available and Christmas music will be performed by the “Blue Night Jazz Trio,”featuring Jakobe Lange on drums, Alex Ellis on bass and Jonathan Sandy on piano. Christmas Carols will be sung by the piano inside and throughout the afternoon, 1823 classic by Clement Clarke Moore, “A Visit from St. Nicholas,” more commonly known as “The Night Before Christmas” and “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” will be read.

A children’s craft table will be set up that will allow young guests to create their own vintage style Christmas ornament to take home. The Newton House Museum gift shop will be open, featuring the Newton House’s own mayhaw jelly and other uniquely south Arkansas Christmas gifts. Three vendors will participat­e in the open house that offer handmade gift items,

Senior dance planned for Friday

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) for persons ages 55 and older, will be held from 7 until 10 p.m. Friday at Champagnol­le Landing Senior Center, 910 E. Fourth St., El Dorado. The dance will feature the music of “Blue Steel.” Admission is $6 per person and no smoking or alcohol will be allowed.

Substance abuse informatio­n to be presented at ‘Family Night’

SMACKOVER — Ouachita County Medical Center Mental

Health Services Director Teresa Roark will present informatio­n about drug abuse during Smackover High School’s “Parent & Family Engagement Night” event.

Roark’s presentati­on is called “Be in the Know: What Every Parent Should Know About Substance Abuse.” The event is scheduled to be held at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 27 at Hobgood Auditorium.

Meet Me at the Court youth plan mission project

Meet Me at the Court youth will sponsor their Fisherman of Men Mission project beginning with serving at noon on Saturday and the street being served will be Hawthorne Street. All youth are asked to be ready to be picked up at 11:30 a.m. Captains of the mission project are Joseph Brice, Lamarrio Island, Carmelo Brown and Jaheim Heard.
