Strong cruises past Emerson for first win

EMERSON - Derrian Davis led a balanced attack with 23 points, as Strong picked up its first win of the season by rolling to a 71-46 win over Emerson on Friday night.

Trey Smith had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Jadarrius Dixon had 15 points for the Bulldogs (1-1).

Strong led 20-9 after the opening period before extending their lead to 38-24 at intermissi­on.

The Bulldogs busted the game open in the third quarter, outscoring the Pirates 29-9 to take a 67-33 lead.

Parkers Chapel 51, Hampton 33

PARKERS CHAPEL - The Trojans won their second straight by winning their home opener over the Bulldogs.

The coaching staff singled out Josh Osborn, Amari Bell, Dawson Goodwin, Nate Garrett-Evans and Isaiah Brown all having good games.

GIRLS

EMERSON - Dynasty Davis had 19 points and eight steals, while Amaya Smith added a double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds, as Strong knocked off Emerson 45-28.

The contest was a rematch from the opening round of the regional tournament last spring, which saw the Lady Bulldogs end Emerson's season with a 52-50 win.

Kiki Shelton added six points for the Lady Bulldogs (2-0).

WEST SIDE CHRISTIAN SPLITS ON ROAD

MAGNOLIA - West Side Christian's basketball teams split a pair of AACS South

games on Friday at Columbia Christian.

The Lady Warriors continued their fine start to the young season with 40-32 victory.

Olivia Voss had 15 points, while Lauren Land added 10 points and Rylee Scriber finished with six points for West Side Christian (5-1, 2-0)

Stephfan Tabe had 15 points, but it wasn't enough, as the Warriors fell 48-44.

Zachary Scriber had nine points and Viraj Vora added seven points for the Warriors (2-3, 1-1).

In the junior girls game, West Side Christian was downed 42-17.

Carley Dugal had 11 points for the Lady Warriors (0-2, 0-1).

In the junior boys game, West Side Christian came away with a 34-27 win.

Ashton Yarbrough had 18 points and Zackley Pearson finished with seven points for the Warriors (2-1, 1-1).

West Side Christian's varsity teams return to action today when they will compete at the Claiborne Academy Classic in Louisiana.
