Food Network has some seasonal treats in store

- By Andrew Warren TV Media

Christmas is in the air, and for foodies that means one big thing: sweet, sumptuous, melt-in-your-mouth baked goods are popping out of ovens in homes all over the country. Of course, being a foodie isn't at all a prerequisite for getting excited about shortbread, pies and gingerbread; after all, who doesn't love digging into fresh holiday goodies?

For folks who just can't get enough Christmas cheer, Food Network has some tasty treats in store. Two baking competitions have already gotten underway on the channel, and on Christmas Day there's a special gift just waiting to be opened.

On Monday, Dec. 25, runners-up from past seasons of "Holiday Baking Championship" hope for a Christmas miracle as they return for a second shot at victory in "Holiday Baking Championship: Runners-Up Redemption." The familiar faces were so close to sweet victory that they could taste it the last time they competed, and this is their chance to redeem themselves in the eyes of judges Duff Goldman ("Ace of Cakes"), Nancy Fuller ("Farmhouse Rules") and Lorraine Pascale ("Worst Bakers in America").

Speaking of "Holiday Baking Championship," this year's season started back on Nov. 6 and has been continuing Monday nights ever since. Former NFL player and "The Bachelor" heartthrob Jesse Palmer hosts as nine home bakers test their whisking, frosting and folding skills as they compete to win a $50,000 prize — talk about a sweet Christmas gift!

Also continuing Monday nights on Food Network is "Christmas Cookie Challenge," hosted by Eddie Jackson, another former NFL player. Each episode sees five bakers competing for a $10,000 prize, with lead judge Ree Drummond ("The Pioneer Woman") and a panel of rotating guest judges deciding who gets some Christmas cheer and who goes home empty-handed.

Whether you're a foodie or not, Christmas treats are always a favorite, and Food Network has baked goods galore for the entire Christmas season.
