Funeral for Lakeytha Denise Fields, 41, will be held at noon Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, at Zion Hill Baptist Church in Farmervill­e, Lousiana with the Rev. Tommy L. Carr officiatin­g. Interment will follow at Zion Hill Church Cemetery under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Farmervill­e. Visitation will be held from 2 until 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.

Obituaries MELBA J. PEPPER

Melba Jean Harbour Pepper, 73 of El Dorado, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Oak Ridge Nursing Home.

Born July 13, 1944 in El Dorado, she was the daughter of Winton and Estelle Chandler Ogden. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister, a brother, JW Ogden and her first husband, Chester Harbour.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Pepper, a daughter Debbie Harbour and a sister, Marie Wilson (Horace) along with a sister-in-law, Darlene Ogden.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, January 8, 2018 at Young’s.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Oak Ridge Nursing Home and Life Touch Hospice for their care.

JANET STUART

Janet Stuart, 95, died Friday, January 5, in El Dorado, at Medical Center of South Arkansas. Born Janet Eleanor Pachter on December 27, 1922, in Memphis, Tennessee, she was the daughter of

Ruby and Henry Pachter of

Webb, Mississipp­i.

She spent the first five years of her life in the Mississipp­i Delta before her family moved to Memphis.

She was graduated from

Central High School in Memphis and attended business school at Memphis State University. After marrying her wartime sweetheart, Joseph Paul Stuart, Jr. on December 17, 1945, they moved to El Dorado in August of 1946, where they founded Stuart Typewriter Company, which evolved into Stuart’s, Inc. a regional office machine dealership.

She was active in Congregati­on Beth Israel, teaching Sunday School for decades and often speaking to area groups about Judaism. She spearheade­d the yearly Passover lunch at the SAAC lunch, a part of the South Arkansas Arts Center, and was involved in its daily management.

She was, among other groups, active in Pilot Club, Athena Club, several bridge clubs, El Dorado Service League, NOMDA, as well as being involved in all of her children’s and grandchild­ren’s activities.

After surviving cancer, she became an active participan­t in the Union County Cancer Relay for Life.

She and her late husband traveled the world together, visiting 17 foreign countries, bringing back tales of their adventures to family and friends.

Preceded in death by her husband, survivors include a daughter, Janey Stuart Pillsbury (Dr. Richard) of EL Dorado; a son, Richard Stuart of Shreveport, La.; five grandchild­ren, Kimberly Pillsbury Steele (Nelson) of Sugar Land, Texas; Richard Curtis Pillsbury, Jr. (Sarah) of Bristow, Va.; Megan Stuart Hollis (Ryan) of Nashville, Tn.; Rachel Stuart-Haas (David) of Shreveport, La., Sarah Stuart Storm (Matt) of Fonthill, Ontario, Canada; and 8 great grandchild­ren.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 8, 12:00 pm at Arlington Cemetery, located on Mosby Street, in El Dorado.
