Ardell Loe, 83, of El Dorado passed away on Monday, Jan. 8, 2018.

A visitation will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 2, 2018 at Marrable Hill Church. Services will follow at 2 p.m.

Raymond Earl Smith of Danville, California, formerly of Strong, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017 in Danville.

Bert Allen Thorne, 84, of Marietta, Georgia recently passed away on Jan. 6, 2018.

Visitation for Mattie Louis Furlough Johnson, 69, will be held from 2 until 5:30 p.m. today at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral will be held at noon on Thursday, Jan. 11 at Countyline Baptist Church in Spearsvill­e, Louisiana with the Rev. Orlando Smith officiatin­g. Interment will follow at Countyline Church Cemetery under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home of Farmervill­e.

MYRTLE K. BORCHERT

Myrtle Kathryn Ferguson Borchert, 96, went to be with the Lord Saturday,

Jan. 6,

2018 at Hospice Home Care in Little

Rock.

Born

August 1, 1921 in Humphrey, she was one of eleven children of Jessie and Alma Louise Garrison Ferguson.

Preceding her in death along with her parents were her husband of 70 years, Louis Borchert and five brothers, Fremont, Leo, Larry, Bill and Mac Ferguson.

Besides helping to raise four children, she worked 38 years for J. F. Sample Co., M. M. Cohn and Dunlap, where she served as supervisor of ladies coats, suits, and the dress department. Myrtle also worked as an Assistant Leader with Camp Fire Girls for several years.

In 1997 she decided to volunteer at MCSA with the Ladies Auxiliary. She worked in Tasteful Treasures Gift Shop, the last three years as buyer/ manager, accumulati­ng a total of 4,000 volunteer hours over a time span of 11 years.

She loved her Lord, and as a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church she held many offices, her favorite was serving as Chairman of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, Human Care. She also took great pride in serving as Altar Guild chairman.

Survivors include her four children, Tommy Borchert (Judy) of Little Rock, Chris Borchert of Vicksburg, Mississipp­i, Sharon Borchert of El Paso, Texas and Barbara Adcock (Mike) of Texarkana, Texas. Also surviving are two grandsons, Dr. Jeffrey Adcock of Houston, Texas and Brent Adcock (Leslie) of San Antonio, Texas along with two great-grands, Emery and Ben Adcock of San Antonio, Texas. She leaves four sisters and one brother, Louise Bunch of Newark, Arkansas, Lucy Williams of Batesville, Shirley Hill of Alexander, Sue Taylor of Batesville, and Jay Ferguson of Little Rock.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018 at Young’s.

Funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018 in Young’s Chapel with the Rev. Chuck Johnson officiatin­g. Interment will follow in Arlington Memorial Park under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.

BETTY J. BURNS

Betty Jane Burns, 84, died after a lengthy illness on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, surrounded by family in Branson, Missouri. She was born on May 26, 1933, in Strong, to Marion Saunders and Emma Jo Burns.

She is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her loving sister, Dolores Burns Nunnally of Branson, Missouri (formerly of El Dorado AR), loving niece, Jo Lynn (Jody) Nunnally

Blair and her husband,

Gerald, of Branson, Missouri, great nephew, Michael Shawn

Blair (Jennifer), of Newark Illinois, great niece, Kelly Lyn Kukla (Stephen), and great great niece, Amy Alice Kukla, all of Downers Grove, Illinois. She loved and made sure she spent time with Kelly and Michael as they grew up whenever she could. Most recently, she was blessed to get to know her great great niece, Amy, and enjoyed all the joy a child provides in one’s life.

Betty graduated from Strong High School in 1951, obtained her Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from the University of Central Arkansas, where she was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma sorority and her Master’s in Education from University of South Alabama. Betty held teaching positions in El Dorado as well as worked for the Girl Scouts of America in both Alabama and Mississipp­i, serving as GSA Girl Scout Camp executive director and Field Director. She retired in 1999 from her Team Coordinato­r position at Ellisville State School, Ellisville, Mississipp­i, where she had also worked as a Special Education teacher in Adaptive Physical Education, Quality Assurance and, lastly, Team Coordinato­r. In 1979, she was chosen for a biography in the Community Leaders and Noteworthy Americans.

Betty made friends easily and was a very giving person. She was on the girls’ basketball team while in high school and was a star player. She loved to fish and do many outdoor activities. She had several beloved dogs throughout her life. She was a member in the past of Knowles Baptist Church in Strong and, most recently, Cleary Baptist Church in Florence Mississipp­i. She loved to travel. While living in El Dorado, she graciously served as Jody’s Camp Fire Girls leader.

After cremation, Betty will be laid to rest at Natchez Trace Memorial Park Cemetery in Madison Mississipp­i, at a future date by her family and friends. Donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 139 AW Willis Avenue, Memphis TN.

MARJORIE C. LAWRENCE

Marjorie C. (Margie) Lawrence, 92, of El Dorado passed away Jan. 8, 2018 at Oak Ridge Nursing and Rehab. Born on May 10, 1925 in Sikes, Louisiana, she was the daughter of Robert Jack Crain and Nancy Jane Crain.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Jackson Lee Lawrence, her parents, and nine brothers and sisters. Survivors include, two sons, Terry Don Lawrence and wife Brenda, Barry Lawrence, two daughters, Glenda Richard and husband Billy of El Dorado, and Marilyn Brown of Arlington, Texas; five grandchild­ren Christina Hostetter and husband Dan, Shannon Wood and husband Tony, Candia McElvain and husband Shanon,

Lindsey Lawrence of El Dorado, and Alex Brown of Arlington, Texas; nine great-grandchild­ren, Kristen Hildebrand husband Walker , Daniel Hostetter, Jackson Hostetter, Ashton Drummond wife Lexi, Andrew Drummond, Austin Drummond, Bailey McElvain, Caden Brown, and Mason Brown, four great-great grandchild­ren, and several nieces and nephews.

She retired from the retailing industry after working for numerous stores in her long career. She was an avid gardener. She loved to play the piano, playing with grandchild­ren and was an excellent cook. She will

be missed by all who knew her. She was a member of Murmil Baptist Church.

Pall bearers will be Daniel Hostetter, Ashton Drummond, Andrew Drummond, Austin Drummond, Bailey McElvain, and Jackson Hostetter.

Funeral will be held Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018 at 1 p.m. at the Hurricane Grove Baptist Church in Sikes, Louisiana officiated by Bro. Billy Smith and Bill Roberson Jr.

Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 11

a.m. Interment will be in the Hurricane Grove Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home, El Dorado, AR.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Murmil Baptist Church building fund, 203 Beacon Hill Drive, El Dorado, AR or Lifetouch Hospice, 2301 Champagnol­le Road El Dorado, AR.
