SAAC announces dates for photograph­y competitio­n

The South Arkansas Arts Center has announced dates for its bi-annual open photograph­y competitio­n, “The Viewfinder.”

The competitio­n is open to any type of photograph­ic cameras - SLR, digital, Polaroid or cellphone. The competitio­n, sponsored by William P. Cook & Associates, PLLC, has an entry deadline of Jan. 31. The exhibition will be held Feb. 2-27.

Cash prizes will be awarded for best of show, first, second and third places, as well as for honorable mention. Entries must be original photograph­s taken with any type of camera that are framed and ready for display in the gallery. Photograph­ers may use basic corrective editing in the dark room or digitally, but no graphic manipulati­ons or touch-ups are allowed.

An artist’s reception will be held from 6-8 p.m. Feb. 10, with the awards presentati­on at 6:30 p.m.

Photograph­s must have been taken in the last five years and not previously shown at SAAC. No work done under supervisio­n or in a classroom environmen­t will be accepted. Each piece must be framed appropriat­ely with a sufficient hanging method. The judge and show chairperso­n have final authority to define what constitute­s an acceptable entry.

To enter, submit up to two framed photograph­s along with a completed entry form and the entry fee of $10 for SAAC members and $15 for the general public for each piece. One free entry is allowed for new SAAC members.
