Don was survived by his son Donny Shaddock, his daughter-in-law Shirley Shaddock, both of Lake Jackson. His grandson Trey Shaddock, granddaughter Leslie Liondas, and two great-granddaughters, Kallie and Emily Liondas, all of Lake Jackson.

Don served in the United States Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Manila Bay in the Pacific theatre during

World War II and fought in many notable battles during his four years of service, including the retaking of the Philippine islands, where he was honored for wounds received in the line of duty. He was honorably discharged from the Navy after the war and held a variety of jobs including being a police officer in El Dorado, Arkansas and eventually began a career with Dow Chemical where he worked as an operator and Union Chief for over 20 years.

In retirement Don and his wife Joyce found their true passion as cattle ranchers in El Dorado, Arkansas, where they were also very active in their local church. He enjoyed coaching baseball teams all through Pee-Wee to Babe Ruth Leagues. He loved football and baseball and was a big fan of the Texas Longhorns and Houston Astros. He was also proud member of the National Rifle Association as a lifelong gun owner and advocate. Many knew Don for his compassion as he always sought to help those less fortunate than himself. He was known to often carry spare blankets, food, and toys in his car and give them out to complete strangers and children in hope of helping those that couldn’t help themselves. He was a caring man that treated people fairly no matter their condition or status and never asked for anything in return.
