F. GARFIELD ANDERSON
F. Garfield Anderson passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Feb. 5, 2018. He was predeceased by his parents Robert and Adeline (Copeland) Anderson and his three older brothers Thomas, Laurence and Robert. He is survived by his four loving children, Rosalind Jeffery (Berry), David Anderson (Lisa), Susan Anderson (Jeffrey Smith), Jocelyn Scott (Kevin); six treasured grandchildren Liam Gallacher (Katy Petrovitch), Alexander Jeffery, Brittany Scott, Jane Jeffery, Benjamin Gallacher, Brody Scott and numerous dear nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Garfield was born in Arrowwood, Alberta. He graduated from high school in Strathmore and attended Normal School in Calgary. He earned a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta in 1961 and a Master of Arts in Education from the University of Calgary in 1969.
Garfield was a passionate teacher and led a life of service as an educator and leader for 35 years with the Calgary Board of Education (CBE). Garfield began teaching in a one room school in rural Alberta at the age of 19. He spent two years teaching Canadian students abroad in Soest, Germany with the Department of National Defense, where he met and married our mother.
Garfield had many leadership roles within the CBE culminating as Area Superintendent. Garfield was part of a highly progressive group of educators who left a legacy surrounding good teaching practices and student assessment. During his career, he encouraged schools to embrace continuous learning and personally modeled this concept throughout his life.
Garfield also served as acting President of the Alberta College of Art, taught graduate studies at San Diego State University and trained teachers in Nepal on leadership skills.
Garfield was a consummate and astute art collector. He loved the opera, theatre, philharmonic and was a gifted piano player. He enjoyed many hours gardening and bird watching. Garfield had a great sense of adventure and traveled the world extensively. He participated in Road Scholar Elderhostel programs in Canada, the USA, France, Caribbean, China, Europe, Russia and Brazil.
As a friend of Bill W., Garfield sponsored many to a better life.
Garfield will be forever missed and cherished by his family and many friends. We will miss his energy and enthusiasm for life. He was always interesting and interested in others. We will remember him for his use of language, quick wit and prodigious memory. We honor a life well-lived and a man who had such a profound effect on others.

MARY ALICE BARNES
Mary Alice Barnes was born on June 8,1924 to Elmo and Essie Haney Thompson. Sister Mary Alice spread her wings and soared into her glorified body on Sunday,
Feb. 11, 2018.
She transitioned peacefully at her home in her bed surrounded by her loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers, three sisters, four sons, two daughters, and two loving husbands. Sister Mary Alice leaves to celebrate her life; son, John W. Young and daughter, Annie R. White both of El Dorado; brother, Gus Thompson of Huttig; sister, Margie Furlow of Lapile; a very special couple, James and Lottie Frost of El Dorado; 23 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and 40 great great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018 at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Strong with the Rev. Robert E. Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Ward’s Chapel Cemetery in Strong under the direction of Andrews Funeral Home.
THOMAS L. GEAHLEN
Thomas Lee Geahlen, age 61, of El Dorado, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018 at UAMS in Little Rock. He was born in Michigan on Aug. 25, 1956 to James and Mary Geahlen. He loved the Lord very much and attended Good Samaritan Church in El Dorado, which he held very close to his heart. He absolutely loved being outside in nature: hunting, fishing, hiking, and burning leaves.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include Stephanie Geahlen, his daughter from North Carolina; three sisters, Ruth Zink, Judy King, from Oklahoma, and Esther and (Jon) Rehbein, from Oklahoma, and five nephews and three nieces.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Good Samaritan Church, 3597 Junction City Highway, El Dorado. As per Tom’s request please wear jeans or comfortable clothes.

MAXINE GARRIS COLLINS JONES
Maxine Garris Collins Jones, 85, of El Dorado passed away Feb. 12, 2018. Born
Nov. 26,
1932 in Wesson, she was the daughter of Alden and Ethel Adams
Garris. She was the oldest of seven children, growing up in Wesson and attending Junction City High School and later business school in El Dorado.
While in high school Maxine was named Most Outstanding Athlete for her ability on the basketball team. During her teen years Maxine learned to sew and made many of her own clothes.
She later married John M. “Rip” Collins, a recent forestry graduate from the University of Florida. They began their married life in Malvern where Rip was employed by International Paper Co and Maxine worked at Acme Brick payroll Department. Rip was later transferred to Sheridan with IP and Maxine worked for Williams Lumber Co.
Another transfer for Rip sent them to Rison for a short time and then to El Dorado for several years then to Pine Bluff. A later transfer sent the family to Camden where Rip passed away in 1997 after 45 years of marriage. She worked at the Hush Puppy Restaurant in Camden and the Duck Inn on weekend nights. Maxine took up bowling along the way and travelled to many tournaments and was the Arkansas State Tournament winner in Fayetteville one year. She also loved growing flowers and learned to make jelly and jam for entry in the Camden Fair and to share with friends.
Maxine enjoyed working in the churches wherever she lived and taking part in all the activities that she
could. Maxine served as Treasurer of the Camden Women’s Golf Association for six years and President of the Camden Women’s Bowling Association.
Maxine later married her high school friend, Frank Taylor Jones, Jr. in El Dorado, enjoying a year and a half marriage before Frank passed away.
While a member of First Baptist Church of El Dorado she served on the Flower Committee, Senior Choir and was an active member of the Parlor Sunday School Class.
Preceding her in death along with her parents are her husbands, a son, Greg Collins and a brother, Howard Garris.
Survivors include a son, Scott Collins of Stephens, a brother, Elton Garris (Annette) of El Dorado and sisters, Amy Thorne of Marietta, Georgia, Relda Huitt (Kenny) of Junction City, Mary Lou Fischer of Allison Park, Pennsylvania, Francis “Teal” Combs (Dean) of Spring, Texas along with a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018 at First Baptist Church of El Dorado with the Rev. LaMont Harris and the Rev. Charles Ainsworth officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Camden under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, 2018 at Young’s.

VIRGINIA M. MARCOTT
Virginia Maxine Marcott, 89, of El Dorado; died on
Feb. 11,
2018 at Circle of Life Legacy Village Hospice i n Bentonville.
Born on Dec. 7, 1928 in Walcott; she was the daughter of Dewey Jacobs and Manie Patterson Jacobs. A homemaker, Virginia help her husband Kendal at his optometry office.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and husband Louie Kendal Marcott.
Survivors are a son Don Marcott of San Antonio, Texas; a daughter Diane Willis (Dewayne) of Bentonville, and grandchildren Beau Marcott, Hallie Marcott, Jeffrey Willis and Jamie Willis along with a great grandchild Paige Martindale.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018 in the Chapel of Young’s Funeral Directors with Dr. James Bullock officiating. Interment will follow at Craig Cemetery. The family will receive friends an hour prior the services.

EBONI E. SNOWDEN
Eboni EToy “Ebs” Snowden made her debut on April 2, 1989 in El Dorado, to Jorman Snowden and Angela Maria Preston. She was a member of Starlight Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and worked in the Youth Ministry. Eboni was a 2007 graduate of El Dorado High School, where she was a member of the Steering Committee, Student Council, Senior Follies and the Marching Band. She attended the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and later at Hope. She was a substitute teacher in the El Dorado Public Schools.
Eboni transitioned on Monday, February 12, 2018 at Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her grandparents: Minnie L. Tatum, Glinder M. Riggins and Grady Snowden, Jr.
Survivors are her son, Denim Cole Welch of El Dorado; parents, Jay and Angela Maria Tatum of El Dorado; her father, Jorman L. Snowden of Bernice, Louisiana; siblings, Bria J. Snowden of El Dorado, Sequoia Z. Snowden of Conway, Jalen K. Tatum of Texarkana,Texas, and T’auna S. Snowden and JoeLaun D. Snowden of Bernice, Louisiana; grandparents, Ruby Preston and Stanley H. Preston of El Dorado.
Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018 at St. John Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Lott Burgy Cemetery under the direction of Andrews Funeral Home. Public viewing will be from 1 until 5 p.m. on Friday and from 8 until 1 p.m. on Saturday.
