Murphy named Tourism Person of the Year
Madison Murphy was named Tourism Person of the Year on Tuesday by Gov. Asa Hutchinson at the Governor’s Conference on Tourism. Murphy won the award for his work for the Murphy Arts District, said Austin Barrow, MAD President and CEO.
Construction work closes section of 8th Street
El Dorado Water Utilities is replacing 1,760 feet of sewer main and service lines under 8th Street, from just north of North West Avenue to Newton Street, closing sections of the street to traffic.
Work began yesterday, closing a section of the street between 403 W. 8th St. to 410 W. 8th St. The street has been closed at Ozark and drivers may detour through Parkway.
Different sections of 8th Street will be closed for the next three weeks as work continues, and drivers are urged to drive cautiously and be aware of workers in the area.
Camp Fire to host annual ‘Absolutely Incredible Kid Day’ tomorrow
Every year on the third Thursday of March, thousands of adults across the country encourage the young people in their lives on Absolutely Incredible Kid Day.
Anyone can participate and promise to tell a kid they’re incredible at campfire.org.
Locally, an Absolutely Incredible Kid Day Celebration will be held at 3:45 p.m. tomorrow at El Dorado Lanes beginning for all Camp Fire members ages kindergarten through 12th grade. RSVP to 862-3463 to join in the fun.
SouthArk announces Arts & Crafts Expo
South Arkansas Community College will hold the Arts and Crafts Expo from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 2-3 in the SouthArk Library. Vendors and exhibitors will display and sell items. The event is free and open to the public.

Barton Library to host art exhibit
Barton Library will host Lucy Gibney’s Art Under Glass: The Jacobean Age starting Monday through March 26.
The exhibit will feature artwork that characterizes the era and will feature painted depictions of the flora and fauna of the time, King James I and royal traditions. The exhibit will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through March 26.
