Junction City rallies for win over Monticello in district

MONTICELLO - Clay Jolley hit a tworun single as part of a six-run seventh inning, as Junction City overcame a 4-1 deficit to top Monticello 7-4 in Class 3A-4A District 12 play on Monday.

With one out in the seventh, Keelan Hodge singled and Brock McGoogan walked to put runners at first and second.

Charles Hoof, who had three hits for the Dragons (11-5, 3-0), delivered an RBI single to cut the Billies’ lead to 4-2.

With runners again at first and second, Jack Smith was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Tanner McLelland followed with an RBI single to pull the Dragons within a run.

Ty Disotell then collected a bases-loaded walk to force in the tying run, and Smith scored moments later on a passed ball to give the Dragons the lead.

Jolley then gave the Dragons some insurance by lacing his aforementi­oned two-run single to make it 7-4.

Disotell picked up the win in relief, working two scoreless innings. He didn’t allow any hits, walked one and struck out two.

Hodge allowed five hits and four runs

in five innings of work. He walked three and struck out three.

Jolley finished with two hits, adding a double in the win.

Bryce Ware had two singles, while Smith had a double and an RBI and Cody Lee had a single to round out Junction City’s attack.

SMACKOVER 11, HAMBURG 7

HAMBURG - The Bucks (5-10, 2-2) scored six runs in the second en route to topping the Lions in Class 3A-4A District 12 action.

Tucker Evans, Josh Saulsbury, Nick Impson and Alex Burris each had RBI singles as part of the second-inning uprising with the latter two hits coming on bunts.

Evans led the Bucks’ offense, finishing 3-for-5 with two RBIs, adding an RBI double in the fifth.

In addition to Evans’ RBI double, Forrest Harrison stole home as part of a three-run fifth.

Saulsbury and Burris were each 2-for4, while Impson was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Jackson Cook had an RBI double in the sixth, and Cade Schibler added an RBI while going 1-for-3.

Noah Wilson and Baylor Brumley had one hit apiece for the Bucks.

Cody Smith picked up the win in relief, scattering 10 hits and five runs over four innings of work. He didn’t issue any walks, hit two batters and struck out five.

Schibler needed just one pitch to pick up the save.

Wilson got the start for the Bucks, working 2 2/3 innings. He allowed three hits and two runs. He walked four and struck out four.
