The start of turkey season has arrived

-

Sorry that I had to skip writing last Thursday! I was so busy with the new job and other things that I had to take a break last week but I'm happy to be back this week.

I am really happy with my new job at Melvin's Pharmacy.

My coworkers are so wonderful and made the transition to a new environment so much easier.

Opening of turkey season is upon us! I have been anticipating this day for months!

The woods are full of new green growth, the songbirds are so active and the big birds are starting to gobble.

I felt like a kid on Christmas morning going through my turkey gear.

I bought three new diaphragm calls and had to get a new pair of boots.

The Muck boots I had for about eight years finally got a hole in them so I retired them.

Mud and water in your boot is no fun when you have to walk a lot.

I also had to get a new pair of pants in the Mossy Oak Obsession pattern.

After six years, my other pair finally had a hole in one of the pockets and in the knee.

I looked through my turkey vest and threw away some leaves and twigs that wound up in the pouch for my decoys.

I'm excited to try two new slate calls that were made locally by Keith Williams.

They have a wonderful pitch and tone and I think the toms will love them next week.

If you would like to see some of his calls, you can find him on Facebook at A.M. Calls.

I wish everyone the best of luck this weekend on the youth hunt and Monday when all of the big kids get to hunt.

Please be safe and watch your step. Snakes
